Forza Motorsport Will Be A Live Service Title And Will Get Years Of Support, Confirms Phil Spencer

Forza Motorsport is currently all the rage among racing genre lovers, but many important facets of the project are still a mystery. Phil Spencer appeared in an interview with IGN to shed further light on the title. He affirmed that the game will be GaaS and will receive years of support. The Xbox brand CEO was a tad bit hesitant to use the term, likely due to the negative overtones that have appeared for live service games in recent times.

I think what we see with Forza is the evolution of the experience as much about the tech as it is tracks and cars. And we know that, when people make an investment in the game, they want to make sure we continue to support the game,” says Phil Spencer.

Phil Spencer elaborates that the number was removed from the official name of Forza Motorsport because gamers would always look forward to the next entry. Instead, the devs want to focus on making the game have live-service features with continuous support over the years.

And in some ways, when you put a numeral on the end of the franchise, it instantly says, ‘Okay, well, now you need to move to Forza and plus one.'”

Turn 10 and Microsoft wants to assure the community that the upcoming Forza Motorsport will become the main focus in the franchise. In other words, steady support and content over the years can be anticipated alongside more of a connection with the community because of the GaaS implementation. Regardless, it could prove fatal to the franchise if the seasons in the game end up with predatory or pay-to-win content.

However, nothing of the sort was said by Phil Spencer, and Turn 10 is renowned for bringing some of the best racing entries to the gaming ecosystem. In some related news, Forza Motorsport will lack a bundle of flagship features, including split-screen and spectator mode upon release. They will be implemented in the subsequent updates.

Forza Motorsport is revving up to be one of the most awaited entries slated for this year’s fall. The new GaaS approach could prove to be a boon or a bane for the franchise. It could be worrisome as we have seen how some major live service games have ended up with quite predatory microtransactions. It remains unclear how Turn 10 will implement the live service features, but we may hear more about it in the future. 

The reboot of the alluring series is slated to release on October 10, 2023. It has been confirmed to launch on Xbox Series X and PC, alongside the Xbox Game Pass day one release. Like the olden times, Forza Motorsport will be a simulation-heavy and realistic racing experience alongside new upgrades and an assortment of vehicles. We can expect enthralling visuals mixed with amped-up audio and a gratifying racing venture like no other.
