There are a total of three Religions in Starfield. These are Enlightened, Universal, and Serpent’s Embrace. Although Serpent’s Embrace is more of a cult, the other two are quite similar. That, in turn, leads to the question of choosing from Starfield Enlightened vs Universal religions.

The Universals believe that there is a God somewhere in the universe, and the Grav Jump is his gift to humanity to discover him. In comparison, the Enlightened are Atheists who believe in charity and humanism. As for the Serpent’s Embrace, they worship the Great Serpent. The Great Serpent came in the vision of one of the colonists. It demands to be worshiped, and it will kill everyone who doesn’t follow it.
What To Choose?
One thing I’ve learned is that there isn’t that much of a difference between Enlightened and Universal. The biggest difference between both of those is the outfit that you get from Traits Chest. Both outfits offer different stats. Based on my personal experience, whatever Religion you choose won’t have that big of an effect on your gameplay. You can go with any one of the two religions, and it will be good.

Universal Sanctum: Neocity Urbanwear
The Universal Sanctum offers Neocity Urbanwear to its followers. That outfit is located in the Chest at their head office in New Atlantis. The Neocity Urbanwear is good if you want extra defense from Energy attacks or Airborne attacks. In addition to that, the wearer gets +5% O2 Recovery.
The Enlightened: Settler Poncho Outfit
As for the Settler Poncho Outfit, it is available for the followers of the Enlightened. Like the outfit of Universal Sanctum, it is located in a Chest in the House of the Enlightened. It provides relatively higher defense against Corrosive, Electromagnetic, and Physical types of damage. With the Settler Poncho Outfit, you will get +10HP.
How To Join Religion In Starfield?
For now, there isn’t a confirmed method on how you can join any of the Religions once you have started Starfield.
So, the only method to join a Religion is to do so during the Trait selection screen. In that, you can choose either one of the three available Religion traits.
How To Leave Religion In Starfield?
Leaving the Religion is quite simple, and you just have to go to the head of the religion in Starfield and tell them you want to leave.
Go and meet with the Head of the religions, and there will be a dialogue similar to ‘I’m not sure I want to be a part of XYZ anymore.’ And you’ll leave the religion.
Best Religion In Starfield
When it comes to the best religion in Starfield, it is neither the Enlightened nor The Universal; instead, it is the Serpent’s Embrace religion. Even though it is a bit cultish, the Serpent’s Embrace’s unique benefits when compared to other religions, leave them in the dust.
