Story Highlights
- According to the game designer, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP’s combat will be different from the original.
- The chainsaw battles will be faster to better fit modern hack-and-slash standards.
- In addition, the camera movement and input timing of some attacks have also improved significantly compared to the original.
Yoshimi Yasuda, who is the title’s game designer, said in a post on X that Dragami Games is changing the speed of combat in the remaster to make it more enjoyable for modern users. As a result, compared to the first game, the combat will feel less sluggish.
As per Yasuda, the pacing of chainsaw battles in Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has been adjusted specifically to better fit new action game players. In addition to this, the cheerleading and chainsaw combo attacks have also received a few updates from the devs. The input timing for both of these attacks has been improved significantly and Dragami Games has also raised the standard of the camera movement in the title.

Hence, even though Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is no longer a remake but rather a remaster, it doesn’t mean it’s going to be a copy of the 2012 original. Dragami Games only announced earlier this month that the upcoming action title was transitioning into a remaster instead of a remake. This decision was met with a positive reception by the fanbase..

The original Lollipop Chainsaw was an action-adventure hack-and-slash title that followed a cheerleader called Juliet fighting zombies in a high school. The 2012 title was developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Kadokawa Games (now known as Dragami Games) for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 during the second last year of their cycle.
If the premise of a cheerleader fighting through hordes of zombies doesn’t impress you enough, Lollipop Chainsaw was a collaboration between popular film director James Gunn and game designer Goichi Suda. The game even influenced several scenes in Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad where Harley Quinn kills people in her “Harley-vision.”
Despite mixed reviews, the 2012 original also became the best-selling Grasshopper Manufacture title of all time, shipping over one million copies around the globe. Hence, even though we have to wait until 2024 now, there is a lot of reason to be excited about the upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP when it launches on hopefully both consoles and PCs.
