Info About The Next FFXIV Expansion Coming End of February, Says Yoshi-P

Final Fantasy XIV was a huge success for Square Enix in 2013. The game’s vast subscriber base helped the company during a poor fiscal year. The game reached 25 million registered players in December 2021. Square Enix also made major post-game releases to keep the fanbase hooked.

Game Director Naoki Yoshida has given us new information about the game. In the Radio Mog show, Yoshi-P gives info about the next FFXIV expansion coming end of February. He also announced that the game will have “drastic new changes that will take everyone by surprise.” These changes will lead up to 7.0. So, the future of FFXIV will be clear next month.

It is unclear what Yoshi-P means but some speculate he may be hinting at a new expansion. The game recently got an expansion in the form of Endwalker. This expansion was very well received by the fans and has made the game almost perfect. So, it is hard to tell what these new changes mean.

The game director informed that Krile (Yoshino Nanjo) and Thancred (Yuichi Nakamura) will play a vital part now. Yoshi-P didn’t mention if the story or structure of the game will be impacted. The entire interview is available in a four and a half hour video on Youtube. However, it’s only available in Japanese with no English subtitles. 

The game has gone through multiple patches and expansions since 2013. Square Enix released the first major expansion, Heavensward, in 2015. Stormblood followed this in 2017, which won the expansion of the year award. The company announced the third major expansion, Shadowbringers, for a 2019 release. Endwalker is the most recent and fourth major expansion to FFXIV. This expansion received critical acclaim for its story, soundtrack, and narrative. The expansion also introduced a new story in update patches. So, it is interesting to see what new changes Yoshi-P will bring.

Endwalker gave the story a satisfying conclusion and was a joy to play. It cemented Final Fantasy XIV as one of the best Final Fantasy games. Which is why fans are excited to see what the new changes bring to the game.
