Story Highlights
- Redfall is an Xbox exclusive that was launched earlier this year with a lot of hype surrounding it.
- The game has done poorly since launch, but the devs plan on giving it a redemption arc.
- Update 3 for Redfall has been rolled out, bringing forth a new weapon, and other improvements.
Redfall comes straight from the likes of Arkane and Bethesda, but quite unluckily, the first-person shooter has failed to live up to the hype, at least during its release year. Amid player complaints regarding the quality of the finished product, the devs are supporting the game post-launch, and have released a new update for Redfall in an attempt to better the overall user experience.
“Game Update 3 introduces a new UV-powered Unrivaled Sniper Rifle, the Basilisk, to your arsenal as well as more improvements and balances changes to your Redfall experience,” reads the official blog post detailing the latest update. The new weapon boasts the ability to feature a charged shot to take out vampires in spades whenever you’re running around with a full magazine.
Apart from all the latter, Redfall’s Update 3 makes a ton of changes on various other fronts, including AI, gameplay, missions, playable heroes, user interface, accessibility, audio, and performance. The optimization part alone has been significantly worked on to ensure a smoother experience for players across the board. Just so you know, here are some UI-pertaining changes part of the new patch:
- Improved visibility of player locations on the Map.
- Added input curve visuals for Input Response settings.
- Voice chat now has a separate volume control option in the Audio Settings Menu.
Speaking of updates, Redfall received the 60 FPS performance mode patch early in October, finally after 4 months of silence from the side of the devs and continued frustration building up in the community. The patch brought stealth takedowns to the first-person shooter as well—a mechanic that was not present at launch for the title.

Following that period, a rumor has surfaced on the internet, and it’s directed at the devs wanting to give Redfalll a “redemption arc,” kind of like how CD Projekt Red never gave up on Cyberpunk 2077 even though it was a failure at launch just the same. As per the rumor, both Arkane and Bethesda intend to stick around for Redfall for the years ahead, but I’m not too sure how all of this will end up.
Redfall launched on May 2, 2023, for the Xbox Series X|S and PC exclusively, with no PlayStation version out there. In eXputer’s review, the game got handed a 2/5 rating, with our expert reviewer Moiz Banoori casting a light on the title’s gameplay, its open world, visuals, frame rate cap, and storyline—all seemingly lackluster across the board.
