Final Fantasy XIV Arrives On Switch 2 August 4
Square Enix will release Final Fantasy XIV for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, giving players another portable way to access its enormous MMORPG. As spotted on the US eShop, the Switch 2 version comes with a hefty 117.2 GB storage requirement.
That is not a minor download by handheld standards. Nintendo Switch 2 includes 256 GB of internal storage, meaning Final Fantasy XIV alone could occupy nearly half of its total advertised capacity. The system software and any games already installed will reduce the space actually available to players, making the practical situation even tighter.
In other words, you may want to begin cleaning out that backlog now.
A MicroSD Express Card Could Be Necessary
Nintendo Switch 2 supports microSD Express cards for expanded game storage, and Final Fantasy XIV is exactly the sort of release that makes one worth considering. A 117.2 GB installation leaves considerably less room for other large games, downloadable content, screenshots, and future updates.
Players should also remember that live-service games rarely remain the same size forever. Final Fantasy XIV regularly receives patches, seasonal content, balance adjustments, and major expansions. Its Switch 2 storage footprint could therefore change after launch, even if 117.2 GB is enough for the initial installation.
Standard microSD cards used with the original Switch cannot store and run Switch 2 software. Anyone purchasing additional storage specifically for Final Fantasy XIV should make sure the card uses the microSD Express standard.
