Asobo Studio’s prequel has already leaked online a week before its official launch. Game spoilers are currently circulating on social media.
The Full Game Is Already Out There
Copies of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy are already being played and shared well ahead of its scheduled August 27 launch. Reports of the leak surfaced on the game’s own subreddit, with players posting images of the loading screen and claiming to already be playing through it, while others have deliberately logged off to avoid story spoilers.
Images from the game have also started spreading across piracy-focused subreddits. It’s reportedly the game’s press build that’s circulating, though that hasn’t been officially confirmed by Asobo Studio or publisher Focus Entertainment.
Part of why this happened so cleanly comes down to the PC version’s protection. The build reportedly shipped without Denuvo, relying only on Steam’s standard DRM, which was reportedly bypassed almost immediately once a copy got out.
Part Of A Rough Year For Pre-Release Leaks

This isn’t an isolated incident. 2026 has already seen a steady stream of major games leak or become playable ahead of schedule, including Forza Horizon 6 back in May, an early access window for Lego Batman on Xbox, the opening of 007 First Light spreading online before release, and, most notably this same week, a wave of unauthorized GTA 6 gameplay footage that’s dominated gaming discussion.
Resonance itself is no small release for Asobo. It’s a prequel to 2022’s A Plague Tale: Requiem, which crossed 1 million players within its first month, and shifts the series’ focus onto Sophia, a supporting character from Requiem, in a story set 15 years earlier. The game also leans harder into action combat than previous entries, a deliberate departure from the stealth-first design that defined Amicia’s games.
Asobo and Focus Entertainment haven’t commented on the leak yet. Officially, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is still up for pre-order on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and remains on track to launch day one on Xbox Game Pass on August 27.
