Resident Evil Requiem Star Confirmed As The New Voice Of Gwendolyn In Tides of Annihilation

Sant'Albano steps into the role Jennifer English left in July, introduced through a new "Beneath the Veil" trailer at Gamescom.

Story Highlights

  • Angela Sant’Albano, known for playing Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil Requiem, is the new voice of Gwendolyn.
  • The reveal came through a new “Beneath the Veil” trailer at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live.
  • She replaces Jennifer English, who stepped away from the role in July over health concerns.

After Baldur’s Gate and Expedition 33 star “Jennifer English” stepped down from the role, Tides of Annihilation finally confirmed the new actor taking the role of the lead in a new trailer at Gamescom ONL 2026.

Eclipse Glow Games confirmed the casting on X alongside a new trailer:

This brand new Tides of Annihilation trailer features @asantalbano’s debut as the voice of Gwendolyn.”

The trailer, titled “Beneath the Veil,” premiered during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live in Cologne. It shows Gwendolyn confronting the aftermath of London’s destruction before Guinevere urges her to embrace the power of the Fog. The footage also marks the first appearance of Sir Lancelot as a summoned ally in combat.

Sant’Albano shared her own reaction to landing the role.

“I am beyond thrilled and deeply honored to officially announce that I’m stepping into the role of Gwendolyn in Tides of Annihilation,” she said.

She continues, “Gwen is the kind of heroine I love. She carries self-doubt, constantly questioning whether she’s enough, but she refuses to let fear make her stand still. Everything she does is driven by love for her sister and her homeland, and I think that’s what makes her strength feel so human. Getting to step into her boots, facing otherworldly demigods, and commanding Knights of the Round Table has been an absolute privilege.”

Sant’Albano isn’t stepping into an empty role. Jennifer English, best known for playing Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3, departed the project in July, citing her mental and physical health. English said at the time she’d helped the studio find her replacement and would stay on in an advisory role. Eclipse Glow Games confirmed then that the new actor would be revealed at Gamescom, a promise this trailer delivers on directly.

The casting also arrives after a separate controversy over Gwendolyn’s appearance. Earlier this month, producer Fu Kun addressed fan backlash over the character’s face looking different in a 40-minute gameplay demo, attributing it to lighting adjustments and unfinished rendering work rather than an intentional redesign. Between the recast and the face debate, Gwendolyn has drawn plenty of attention this summer for reasons beyond the game itself.

Eclipse Glow Games also confirmed Tides of Annihilation will support eleven languages at launch, including Brazilian Portuguese. Attendees at Gamescom can already play a demo build on the show floor, based on the same version shown to press in China earlier this year.

The game still doesn’t have a confirmed release date. It remains set for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
