A few months back, SEGA finally announced a new collection of past Sonic titles, Sonic Origins. This collection includes hit titles like Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic CD, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Players get to experience the games revamped with new graphical settings and remastered gameplay.
Fans were extremely hyped and there’s no surprise to it. The announcement trailer exceeded almost 3 million views in a few weeks. The game is officially being released very soon now on a rather important day, as it’s going to be Sonic’s 31st anniversary.
With a release date this close, the hype has never been higher. Recently, a YouTube channel, BLUE CHAOS EMERALD, seemingly leaked the opening cinematic from the game. Fans quickly rushed to the scene to analyze the content.
This leak showcases our main characters, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. In this scene, we see Sonic rolling through the world as he usually does. Then, the camera then pans away to a Chaos Emerald. It’s still a delight that SEGA would go this far to further immerse the experience, even though it seems this cinematic was cut short.
Furthermore, in the last second of the leak, we see a sort of level selection screen. Although it’s titled in Japanese, it could just be more cinematics. We can further speculate that there might be new and improved cutscenes for every title. If this is the case, fans are in for a welcome treat.
With the new animations used in the announcement trailer for Sonic Origins, this speculation can be further solidified. With the gameplay looking smooth as ever and the movement looking absolutely swift and assertive, we can be sure that this project will certainly be worth our time.
As the games are going to be released on every major console, players will be finally able to relive the nostalgic games they played as kids. Sonic Origins is expected to release on 23rd June for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
