Video games’ exclusivity has long been a hindrance to most players. It limits the games to be ported to different platforms and stays exclusive to the native device. The exclusivity of games has helped the consoles flourish. While despite having benefits, it has started to simmer out as more and more exclusives are aimed at other platforms like PC to increase the targeted audience.
Sony has gradually begun to revise its traditional attitude towards its PlayStation exclusives. The choice has helped PlayStation Studios expand its player base by inviting gamers to enjoy the PlayStation exclusives on PC. This notion has allegedly helped PlayStation Studios grow to horizons never witnessed before.
Moreover, the recent addition of PC ports like Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man has wholly helped PlayStation compete with Xbox. The player count and the demand for PlayStation games have skyrocketed on PC. The move has brought forth a new era of prosperity for PlayStation Studios.
Realizing the market prospect of harboring PlayStation ports on PC has wholly benefitted Sony. Evidently, a bundle of more PC ports is rumored to arrive in the future, such as Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarök, among many others. It’s apparent that Sony does not plan to halt this process in the future.
Why Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered On PC Is Overpriced:
Since the first revealed details concerning Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for PC, the community has highly anticipated the game. The four-year-old title had shaken the gaming community when it first emerged. The community witnessed a modern, high-quality superhero game in all its glory. Who could not love Spiderman swinging through the urban New York wilderness to fight criminals with a fleshed-out memorable story?
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered has been successfully ported to PC, with the whole community enjoying it. The concurrent player count has crossed the 60,000 concurrent player threshold and is currently #1 on the Top Currently Global Selling Steam Games. The players have highly anticipated the game, even leaking out images before the game was released on PC. However, Sony may have grown a tad bit too greedy in the pricing, and here’s why.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for PC is overpriced for being a four-year-old title. Moreover, there is no regional pricing with this game alongside many others, meaning it is just as expensive in developing countries where the exchange rates are off the charts. The addition in pricing surprised many in the community and seems unjustifiable.
The price for PC ports of God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn was just $49.99, and the quality of the ports was very satisfying. Unfortunately, the pricing with Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for PC has increased by $10, standing at $59.99, with upcoming PC ports allegedly costing even more.
Usually, prices can be justified by the game in question being a premium AAA title. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for PC is a four-year-old title now. The game has dominated all the charts, but the pricing for the PC port should be like the aforementioned PC ports.
One could try to justify the increased price with the fact that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC comes with full expansions. However, that kind of argument holds no water because Horizon Zero Dawn also included expansions despite being priced $10 less.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for PC comes with many new features such as ultra-wide support, and ray-tracing, among many others. The added features add a tint of the modern touch to the PC port. However, even these additions do not justify the significant increase in the pricing. Paying $60 for a four-year-old port does not seem justifiable.
The increased audience and high demand have recently made Sony flexible with its prices, which could become troublesome if the cost continues to add up in future titles. PlayStation Studios continues to increase the costs of its PC releases, which could become a source of significant backlash in the future.
Some of the online communities have raised voices regarding the gradual increase in prices of PlayStation Studios’ games. In actuality, most players are not concerned with a $5–$10 increase at a time. However, ignoring the issue of the continual rise in cost may come to bite back all of the gaming community.
Sony appears to be free of significant criticism as of now for the increased prices. The reason is that most players do not keep up with the ins and outs of the gaming industry and usually purchase games without much investigation. Hence, the $10 increase in prices will not affect Sony as much.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC is an excellent endeavor. Swinging through the high-quality ray-tracing drenched skyscrapers, stealthily taking down enemies, and experiencing the fantastic story on PC has never felt this alluring. The game indeed feels like a modern AAA title with no signs of being four years old in terms of quality.
However, ports like God of War on PC also offered equally compelling immersion. Sony must have noticed the massively high demand surrounding Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and bumped up the price knowing most of the community would purchase it nevertheless. Sony’s premonition has come true, and the title has sold exceptionally. The pricing does not appear to be convincing, but the game is worthy of heaps of praises. However, the increasing costs should be a point of criticism before it becomes a recurring issue in future.
