Must-Have Baldur’s Gate 3 Mods That Are Perfect For Spicing Up Your Next Playthrough

These Baldur's Gate 3 mods can enhance your next playthrough with massive overhauls to the game's customization and classes.

Story Highlights

  • Players can make use of a number of BG3 mods to make their next playthrough more exciting.
  • These provide overhauls to the game’s cosmetics, systems, and classes.

Baldur Gate 3‘s amazing narrative and player freedom have made it one of the most replayable games of this generation. Players often spend dozens of hours in just the game’s first Act, only to begin a fresh character to start it all over again. Because of this, there are many who are eager to jump back in with new classes and characters in mind.

It helps that Larian Studios has kept the game interesting with new additions being made with post-launch updates. This includes things such as quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. That’s not all though. The studio even went above and beyond, adding additional epilogues and endings for characters like Karlach. Unsurprisingly, these have been met with a lot of praise from fans.

Some of these fans have taken it upon themselves to make content and changes to the game via mods. Most of these can be found on NexusMods, and range from additional customization to entirely new classes and playstyles. These mods are the perfect option to pair with a fresh playthrough to enjoy your journey through Faerun even more.

Basket Full Of Equipment

This mod is like a dream come true for people who want all of their characters to save the world in style. Basket Full of Equipment by Antemaxx offers players over 1000 pieces of additional armor pieces players can equip. These armor sets were previously unavailable to players, either worn by NPCs or simply not made accessible in the game’s base version.

With hundreds of choices to pick from, players will get access to both iron-clad armor sets, as well as more “skimpy” choices, as described by the mod author. Personally, I loved having one of my characters wear Gortash’s armor with the help of this mod.

Some players might find it a bit immersion-breaking to be wearing armor pieces that literally belong to important NPCs in the game. But I think it’s alright to be breaking some rules, especially if this isn’t your first trek through Faerun anymore. Interestingly, this mod also comes with some custom spells attached to certain armors. For example, would you like to have Misty Step on all your characters?

Fantastical Multiverse

While the base game offers players a number of races to choose from, some fans still felt like they were lacking. Especially when you consider the sheer variety of fantasy races present in Dungeons in Dragons. Luckily, Fantastical Multiverse alleviates this issue by giving you a completely new and exciting set of races to choose from.

This unique mod adds as many as 20 new races that keep the lore of DnD in mind. Players will be able to play as species from other multiverses, such as the Eberron, Krynn, Golarion, and others. The choices are perfect to spice up a new playthrough, allowing you to play as a character that wouldn’t have been possible to make with the base Baldur’s Gate 3.

Like, would you like to end the Mind Flayer threat with a Bugbear by your side? Or maybe you’re just not happy with the variety provided in the Elf or Human choices. In both those cases, this mod will definitely be right your alley, providing a whole slew of new choices to pick from.

Death Knight Class Mod

By far the best way to change up your Baldur’s Gate 3 experience is to install a custom class mod. There are quite a few of these available, so it didn’t feel right to highlight just a single one. That said, the one that stood out the most during my playthrough was the Death Knight class mod by VivaSortiara.

The Death Knight Class mod in BG3.

This mod brings in the beloved WoW class to BG3, complete with iconic abilities, and even a functioning Rune system. Players will be able to delve into the Blood, Frost, or Unholy subclasses, receiving additional perks and benefits along the way.

The best part is that these abilities are plucked right from WoW, even keeping their icons and images that players might recognize. From my experience, it functions quite well. That said, it’s a tad too strong, especially considering with the Raise Ally ability, players get access to a combat resurrect, without much of a commitment. It’s a decent choice for players who want to have a smoother and less difficult time in subsequent playthroughs.

Tactician Plus Mod

For a lot of gamers, Baldur’s Gate 3 was their first experience with the Dungeons and Dragons combat system. While it might be confusing at first, by the end of the game, you’re probably a pro at spamming Eldritch Blast. For folks who want an additional layer of difficulty in their new playthrough, the Tactician Plus Mod is a great choice.

This mod increases the difficulty of the game and is best paired with some of the other mods I’ve listed above. Players can make use of Tactician Plus’s modular design to essentially pick and choose which additional difficulty setting they’d like for their next playthrough. This can include a health boost to all enemies, a stat boost, and much more.

Essentially, the mod serves as a DIY NG+ mode, allowing players to fine-tune the difficulty of their next run based on their own needs and requirements.

Mharius’s Unleashed Mod Collection

Maybe instead of any new classes, you want to have a refreshing experience of the ones that already exist in the game. In that case, Mharius, a mod author from NexusMods has exactly what you need. He has released a series of mods that fall under his “Unleashed Collection“, featuring revamps and overhauls of a number of Baldur’s Gate 3 systems.

This includes many of the classes, allowing players to go through the game again with a revamped and more exciting experience with BG 3’s original classes. There are tons of options in this mod collection, with significant revamps in the game’s overall spells, as well as in the abilities provided to every class.

In any case, Baldur’s Gate 3 timeless replayability and a large selection of mods are just one of the many reasons why many consider it one of the greatest RPGs of all time. If we end up getting DLC or further updates, the game will only get better and better.
