Fortnite Deserves All The Hate It Gets

One of the most popular video games is either hated or loved by fans and for obvious reasons.

Story Highlight

  • The title has made a huge impact on video games, but it’s not good.
  • The game comprises mechanics which are done way better in other titles.
  • Fortnite is hyped by a player base that is under the age of understanding a good video game.

Around 2017, the era for online multiplayer battle royale games peaked, with Fortnite sitting on the throne. Fortnite took the world by storm. It had players ranging from little kids to the most known streamers on various platforms. However, Fortnite has a divided appraisal among the video game community.

Kids who are new to gaming might download the game and love it, but for what it’s worth, there are many great games out there that outshine Fortnite in every way possible. Let’s talk about how Fortnite’s dislike among the community is justified and how the world needs exposure to good and better video games.

Clunky Gunplay Mixed With Awkward Animations

Fortnite is usually under fire for its bad gunplay. By that, I mean the feeling of shooting an enemy feels unrewarding while having little to no barrage of adrenaline to the player. There are many examples of battle royale games that have more diverse and immersive gameplay than Fortnite.

Let’s take the big three, for example. Aside from Fortnite, Apex Legends and Call of Duty Warzone deliver on the combat and shooting of the game. They feel much more immersive and rewarding while also treating the player with an experience that is more fun than the jank-filled combat of Fortnite. The game lacks good shooting and feels like a game from the 2010s with bland gunplay.

The Learning Curve Of Architecture

Fortnite has a very innovative feature, and thanks to Epic Games for that. The player can build their own set of walls, staircases, houses, and all sorts of infrastructure, you name it. However, the blow to this mechanic is the steep learning curve. The game forces you to learn the building aspect of it, or else you are left behind and can not fend off the other players that are on your back.

This learning curve is a turn-off for many video gamers because some players just want a game where they can shoot guns and have fun, with complex buildings amalgamated with the shooting and the battle royale mechanic of the circle being shortened. The game feels more tense and not in a good way. This takes away the fun factor of the game, which should be the priority for any video game studio.

Creation Of A Toxic Environment

When Fortnite was first released in 2017, it had some seriousness to it as the players took the game as a title to play rather than a platform for trolling. The wave of toxicity and trolling that Fortnite brought into the video game world has made the title feel like less of a video game and more of a platform to degrade other players who are new to the game or just not good at it. This can detract from the enjoyment of the game.

Stream sniping is also a prime example of the toxicity of the game. Viewers join the streamer’s game and locate them through a third lens, which disrupts the gameplay, leading to a negative impact on both the streamer and their audience.

Verbal Abuse And Social Media Controversies

It is a known fact by now that verbal abuse is a common staple in Fortnite. The players use foul language against other players, which are mostly kids. This, in return, influences the children’s minds and has a really bad impact on the kids who are the future of this world.

Fortnite sucks now

This will lead to the casualty of the main purpose—video gaming. A game is meant to be enjoyed and fun, not a platform to release your rage. Outside the video game, players take cyberbullying on social media to the extreme, which is also a big no for a video game.

I solemnly believe that Fortnite has changed the wave for video games, especially the battle royale genre, but many things should not be endorsed, and many other in-game things that can be vastly improved.
