Here’s What You Should Get From Steam’s Latest Fighting Games Fest

Time to go mano y mano without breaking the bank.

Story Highlights

  • Steam has put on a new promotional event on its official storefront, focusing on fighting games.
  • Some of the best fighting games in 2024 have been discounted up to 90%.
  • Titles like Tekken 8, Streets of Rage 4, and For Honor, among others, have all had their prices slashed.

Steam always has something to offer to everyone, and this time, it’s the turn of the Fighting Game Community, the members of which refer to it wholly as FGC. As we know it, therefore, the Steam Fighting Games Fest has kicked off, discounting a swath of titles fitting the bill and putting them up for sale at great prices. If you’re a fighting game fanatic, now’s your time to shine.

I’ve put together this article to highlight the best deals of the event, so you don’t have to put in the work yourself. Just make sure to sift through each listing diligently for favorable results.

Fighting Games Galore And Why You Shouldn’t Be Overlooking It

Oh, and in case you happen to spot another good deal over at Steam, do take to the comments section down below and let me know what you find.

1. Streets Of Rage 4

Streets of Rage 4
Streets of Rage 4 Is a Platformer Done Right

One of my go-to fighting games to duke it out either solo or in co-op mode with a friend, Streets of Rage 4 is an exceptional indie platformer that continues the legacy of the Streets of Rage beat-’em-up franchise. The series’ iconic characters, including Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding, make their respective turns, along with newer ones as well to shake up the gameplay in just the right ways.

Quite fortuitously, it’s up for grabs for only $3.39 right now, which, in my opinion, is one heck of a deal for a game of this stature.

2. Tekken 8

Tekken 8
Tekken 8 Is the Best Fighting Game on the Planet at the Moment, Period

There’s a reason why no other fighting game can hold a candle to Tekken 8, so bear with me a little as I explain how. Coming in almost a decade after the launch of its predecessor, the game in question delivers drastic, and I mean drastic improvements visually, polishing the character design of every single returning character of the franchise, including the likes of Jin Kazama, Paul Phoenix, and Kazuya Mishima.

Selling 2 million copies within 1 month of its release, Tekken 8 has been labeled a commercial success, and not without good reason. eXputer reviewed the game as well, rating it 5/5, with author Muhammad Roaim remarking,

Tekken 8 is a powerhouse in the fighting game world and I’m thoroughly impressed with the entire experience.”

3. Guilty Gear Strive

Guilty Gear Strive Is an Underrated Fighter

Anime-like fighters have never been this good — outside of some of the olden Dragon Ball experiences — all thanks to the sheer fighting thrill offered by Guilty Gear Strive. This is one of the lesser known games in the FGC sphere as compared to the juggernauts that are Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, but that doesn’t make it any less spectacular in its own right.

It’s 50% off at the moment on Valve’s platform, so you can grab it up for about $20. The game also features rollback netcode for smooth PvP play, unlike Tekken 7 which can be a pretty big pain to deal with from an online POV.

4. Mortal Kombat 1

Serving as a reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise, Mortal Kombat 1 is bad, vicious, and more brutal than ever, offering a crisp roster of some of the best Mortal Kombat characters while pushing a brand-new “Kameo” feature as well that lets your player call in a sidekick for temporary assistance. It’s a solid fighter through and through, and certainly nothing to skip out on.

5. For Honor

I’ve recommended For Honor for reasons more than one at this point, so there’s no point not advising new players to try and pick this one up as well, especially when it’s coming for the dirt-cheap price of $3.29. For starters, it’s an utterly fantastic PvP-focused title with robust gameplay mechanics and a variety of different character classes to choose from.

Beware though, For Honor isn’t exactly known for being a world of smiles. The multiplayer aspect of the title will test your mettle more than you’d like to admit. As one Steam reviewer says,

Do you hate yourself? Buy this game. You’ll learn to hate everyone else so much more.”

6. Rivals Of Aether

Rivals of Aether

It’s honestly beyond me why this game continues to get swept under the rug and right under the radar of so many people. I like to refer to Rivals of Aether as a better, more fluid version of the free-to-play fighting platformer Brawlhalla, and not without good reason. The base mechanics are more or less the same, but the title in question is much more in-depth, the map design is extremely creative, and modding potential is just off the charts.

With Rivals of Aether currently being 60% off on Steam, you can purchase it at an incredibly low price of $4.19, which is nothing but amazing value for money here.
