Story Highlights
- Ubisoft listened to player response and overhauled the game with Operation Motherland.
- Breakpoint goes from bullet-sponge enemies, and repetitive missions to an immersive experience.
- Rainbow Six Siege missions added a surprising twist, providing fresh content and Operators.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s launch left me feeling like I’d raided a Skell bunker and found nothing but disappointment. Sure, the bullet-sponge enemies and repetitive missions were annoying, but the story? It was a total letdown. Bland characters, predictable plot twists – the whole thing felt phoned in.
Thankfully, Ubisoft launched Operation Motherland, a substantial update for Breakpoint, promising to inject some much-needed tactical goodness into the gameplay. But can it truly salvage the shortcomings? Can it breathe life into these forgettable characters and weave a story that keeps us engaged beyond the initial shock of a new enemy faction?

Shedding The RPG Skin: Immersive Mode Redefines Immersion
One of the biggest complaints about Breakpoint was the over-reliance on RPG mechanics. Level-scaling enemies and loot drops felt more at home in an open-world RPG than a tactical shooter.
Thankfully, Ubisoft listened. The introduction of “Immersive Mode” throws all that out the window. Now, you can experience Breakpoint the way it was meant to be played – a test of skill and strategy, not endless grinding for the next best gun. Enemies die in a few shots, just like you do, forcing you to be tactical and precise with every encounter. It’s a breath of fresh air for players who crave a more immersive and challenging experience.
Operation Amber Sky: Free Rainbow Six Siege Missions
Ubisoft didn’t stop there. Something unexpected happened and it caught me off guard.: a series of free crossover missions featuring everyone’s favorite Tom Clancy squad – Rainbow Six Siege. These missions seamlessly integrate the tactical intensity of Siege into the open world of Breakpoint.
Infiltrating strongholds filled with toxic gas alongside iconic Operators like Ash and Thatcher is a blast from the past, reminding us why we fell in love with these franchises in the first place. It’s a win-win for both communities, offering fresh content for Breakpoint players and a chance to experience the world of Breakpoint through the lens of Siege Operators.
Operation Motherland’s Conquest Mode Brings Back Strategic Liberation
Longtime Ghost Recon fans might remember the “Buchon” system from the previous game, Wildlands. Operation Motherland’s Conquest mode brings back that territory control element, adding a strategic layer to the open world. Now, liberating enemy outposts and securing resources feels like it has a tangible impact on the game world. It’s a return to form for the series, offering a more strategic and dynamic way to experience the island of Auroa.
As you liberate Auroa region by region, the Outcast influence grows. Expect to see more Outcast activity in the open world, including checkpoints, patrols, and hostage situations. This dynamic faction warfare adds a layer of unpredictability to your exploration.
By bringing back fan-favorite features like dynamic faction warfare and a visually stunning revamped world, Conquest mode injects fresh life into Breakpoint. It’s a clear sign that Ubisoft is committed to making Breakpoint the tactical experience fans deserve.
From Flop To Top: Ghost Recon Breakpoint Makes A Steam Comeback
Remember the rough launch of Ghost Recon Breakpoint? Steam user reviews reflected the disappointment, plummeting to “Negative.”
The response on Steam has been a dramatic shift. Accordingly, user reviews have gone from overwhelmingly negative to a healthy mix, and recently, a surge of “Very Positive” reviews has pushed the overall rating even higher. It’s a remarkable turnaround, showing that Ubisoft listened to player feedback and delivered a much-needed improvement.
A Brighter Future For Breakpoint?
Ubisoft’s commitment to improvement is commendable. The positive reception on Steam speaks volumes. While Breakpoint might never reach the heights of Wildlands for some, there’s no denying it’s on an upward trajectory.
Also, Conquest mode in Operation Motherland is just the latest example of Ubisoft listening to player feedback and injecting new life into Breakpoint. With a renewed focus on tactical gameplay and exciting new rewards, Breakpoint is finally delivering the experience we craved.
Ghost Recon fans can expand their library on a budget at the moment. With continued support and content updates, Breakpoint has the potential to become a truly rewarding tactical experience. So, dust off your gear, Ghosts. The fight for Auroa is far from over, and thanks to Operation Motherland, it’s looking more engaging – and according to Steam users, far more enjoyable – than ever.
