Baldur’s Gate 3 allows various choices for players during character creation when it comes to tweaking their looks. Players can change their race, class, and their body features. Appearances cannot be customized according to the player’s desire after the start of Baldur’s Gate 3. However, you can find an item called the Mask of the Shapeshifter in the deluxe edition of Baldur’s Gate 3 that can change your appearance randomly.
- Players can customize their appearance in great detail during avatar creation before the start of the prologue of Baldur’s Gate 3.
- The Mask of the Shapeshifter can be obtained in a traveler’s chest after you visit the campsite.
- The Mask can change your appearance randomly, which you can dispel when desired.
- The Mask of the Shapeshifter can only be obtained in the deluxe edition of Baldur’s Gate 3.
How To Change Appearance
Baldur’s Gate 3 lets you change your avatar appearance before you start playing. Furthermore, you can also customize your looks mid-game using the Mask of the Shapeshifter.
The Mask enabled me to change my class and other physical details randomly; however, the mask is only obtainable in the Baldur’s Gate 3 deluxe edition. So, players who are running a standard edition cannot tweak their looks in the middle of Baldur’s Gate 3.
How To Obtain The Mask Of The Shapeshifter
In Baldur’s Gate 3, you can obtain the Mask of the Shapeshifter soon after you finish the prologue. Mask of the Shapeshifter is included in The Treasures of Rivellon pack and consists of five items exclusive to the deluxe edition. These include,
- Bicorne of the Sea Beast
- Cape of the Red Prince
- Lute of the Merryweather Bard
- Needle of the Outlaw Rogue dagger
- Mask of the Shapeshifter
Once I completed the prologue, the Mask of the Shapeshifter was obtainable when I visited the campsite in the area I spawned in Baldur’s Gate 3. Navigate to the traveler’s chest and interact with it to obtain a few items along with the Mask of the Shapeshifter.
Using The Mask Of The Shapeshifter
Once you have obtained the mask, it can be equipped to use the Shapeshift spell. The Mask of the Shapeshifter is one of the armor pieces in Baldur’s Gate 3; players can place it in the helmet slot to use it. Once you have equipped it, the Shapeshift spell will appear in the HUD sub-menu.
The aforementioned spell will change your character’s appearance, including race, physical features, and gender. However, the spell has a massive drawback; players cannot change their appearance as they see fit. The spell will randomly change the various appearance features, so getting your desired or suitable results might take a while.
If you change your appearance using the Mask of the Shapeshifter and end up dissatisfied with the random results, you can always use Dispel Disguise; this will revert your original look in Baldur’s Gate 3. Unfortunately, the only way to fully customize your appearance is during avatar creation before you start Baldur’s Gate 3.
Avatar Creation
You can customize your character to change their appearance in greater detail before Baldur’s Gate 3 starts. Players can change their race, subrace, class, and overall appearance to a great extent.
Race decides the overall base appearance of your character, so choosing one that appeals to you at the start is essential. However, the race of your avatar isn’t just for show; different races have various perks and abilities having leverage over one other, so choosing the right race is critical to the overall gameplay. There are eleven races in character creation that players can choose from.
Furthermore, choosing the class of your avatar changes their clothes and apparel. After you are done setting up your avatar’s background settings, you can move to the appearance tab to tweak your looks. You can change your character’s hair, body, skin, and other details. Both your race, subrace, and class will be crucial during builds.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is an extensive game with various mechanics, and it has a lot to offer regarding your character’s appearance. You can conquer the battlefields in style after obtaining the Mask of the Shapeshifter. While it does not let you tweak your character appearance, you might end up with some random striking looks. This concludes my guide on Baldur’s Gate 3 how to change appearance.
