While exploring the massive and beautiful Castle Dimitrescu, players will eventually come across the Resident Evil Village piano puzzle. It’s tough to ignore this particular mini-game, especially since the subject of this is a beautiful grand piano with a music sheet on top.
- The Piano Puzzle itself is very straightforward to locate on Castle Dimitrescu in Opera Hall.
- Only The Middle Cluster of Keys is interactable in the Piano. Press the keys in the following sequence
- 15, 12, 14, 13, 13, 16, 15, 16, 17, 17.
- Afterward, a small compartment will open up in the piano. Inside you will find the Iron Insignia Key as a reward.
Piano Puzzle Guide
So as previously mentioned, players will encounter this puzzle in Castle Dimitrescu. I won’t delve into any spoilers, but you have to play through a significant chuck of the game and reach the first floor of the Opera Hall to find the piano.
And while combat encounters are not particularly challenging on the way here, it never hurts to be prepared. Check out our guide on the Resident Evil Village Best Weapons to learn which guns are easily accessible at this point in the campaign.
Once you’re set, let’s jump into the actual solution to the Resident Evil Village Piano Puzzle below.
Piano Puzzle Solution
Once you reach the Opera Hall and interact with the piano, you will notice that only a certain number of music keys can be interacted with. The group to the left and right are blocked off, with only the middle cluster available to the player.
There are a total of 21 keys that you can press in the middle cluster, and you should start from the left side when counting.
Now press the following keys in the sequence we’ve mentioned below:
15, 12, 14, 13, 13, 16, 15, 16, 17, 17.
The goal here is to line up the red notes that appear on screen with the black notes on the music sheet. This is helped along by the fact that you can’t actually fail the puzzle. If you make a mistake, the entire process does not reset like in some other mini-games.
Now after you’ve pressed the keys in exactly the order I mentioned above, a small compartment will open up in the piano. Inside you will find the Iron Insignia Key as a reward.
This item is required to open the following locks in the game:
- A door on the second floor of the Opera Hall.
- Another door is in the Graveyard, next to the village Church.
- There is one door in the Chamber of Solace in Castle Dimitrescu.
- You require it to unlock the gate to the house that contains the Resident Evil Village Well Wheel. We have a full guide on that subject.
- Accessing the building with the GM 79 Grenade Launcher inside it also requires the key.
My Thoughts On The Piano Puzzle
After replaying through Resident Evil Village a couple of times, one puzzle I still find oddly interesting and fun to go through is the piano puzzle. While it is not difficult and is only rearranging a few keys, it’s a short simulation of playing piano notes. Even during my speedrun, the piano puzzle is a smooth experience, with no prerequisites or annoying mechanics.
It’s not reused in the game ever again, which makes it all the more fun for me to do. I never feel any tediousness when doing it every time I replay the game. It’s short and a fun aspect I didn’t mind, and similarly, I doubt others will find the puzzle repetitive or a nuisance either.
And that’s all there is to it. This new key item is required both for essential story paths, as well as for optional locations.
