Despite being a 10-year-old game. Getting High FPS and Consistent Performance in GTA V is no joke. The game is really hardware Intensive, and It’s no surprise because the graphics are excellent. Other than this, it is also fairly common with Open World Games that they demand more than just average hardware. This is where our guide steps in, teaching you about the Best Settings of GTA V.
The methods listed in this guide are completely safe. Anyhow, it is still recommended that you make a system restore point. This will help you revert back to the original settings if you messed up some settings accidentally.
I’ve benchmarked GTA V on a PC with the following specs:
- OS: Windows 11 Pro 23H2
- System: Lenovo Legion 7i Laptop
- CPU: Intel i7-11800H
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070 8GB
- RAM: 32GB DDR4
- Storage: Samsung 1TB SSD Gen 4
Your PC needs to have at least an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core CPU, NVIDIA 9800 GT or AMD HD 4870 GPU, and 4 GB RAM to run GTA V on your PC.
The following settings are the most demanding in GTA V:
- MSAA
- Shadow Quality
- Reflection MSAA
- Particles Quality
- Tesselation
- Long Shadows
- High-Resolution Shadows
GTA V was quite a demanding game for its time, but anyone today can run it without issues. The game’s visuals have aged really well and also scale with your hardware. I get almost 100+ FPS on all settings at max (MSAA at x4). Despite it having stability issues in the past, Rockstar kept improving its optimization as the game receives major updates even to this day.

Windows Optimization Tips For GTA V
Alongside configuring in-game graphics settings for GTA V, you can also try out these Windows optimization tweaks to gain an extra boost of performance.
- Update Your Windows 10
- Activate Ultimate Performance Power Plan
- Disable Full-Screen Optimization
- Enable Windows Game Mode
- Clear Out Your System Cache
- Disable Hardware Acceleration In 3rd-Party Apps
- Disable Useless Applications In the Background
Tip: I also recommend turning your Nvidia Control Panel settings or AMD Radeon settings to gain additional performance in all games, including GTA V.
Bonus Tip: Optimize GTA V Config File
There are launch attributes that can potentially Increase your FPS, and get you stable performance without any stutters.
Note: Steam version of GTA V will allow you to enter launch options. However, for Epic Games and Rockstar users, you will have to edit the command-line text file in GTA V Folder.
I’ll first cover the GTA V launch parameters in the config file for Epic and Rockstar launcher users:
- Navigate to your GTA V Folder > Go to Disk C > Program Files > Epic Games > GTA V.
- First, click on CTRL + F on your keyboard and type the command line. If no files were found, create a new text file and name it command line.
- Afterward, Open the file and enter these codes in a proper manner. I’ve also attached their descriptions from the Rockstar site.
- -disable hyperthreading – Don’t count hyperthreaded cores as real ones to create tasks on.
- -hdr – Set the whole rendering pipeline to 16-bit.
- -noquattransform – Don’t use quaternion transforms for placed entities.
- -FrameQueueLimit 0 – Removes frame limiter, allows FPS to go above all limits.
- -ignoreDifferentVideoCard – Don’t reset settings with a new card.
For Steam Users the process is much easier. All you have to do is right-click GTA V In Steam Library > Properties > Enter these commands under Launch options:
-disableHyperthreading -hdr -noquattransform -ignoreDifferentVideoCard -FrameQueueLimit
Wrapping Up GTA V Settings Guide
As discussed before, with years of updates to keep the game alive and well, it performs great on even entry-level hardware. There were issues with the port in the past, but you’ll have no trouble achieving even at least 60 FPS locked performance on any hardware above minimum requirements.
If you’re having any issues with running the game, do let me know in the comments below. I’ll try to respond as promptly as possible.

Noice
Bro its very very helpful !! thankss
Great write up. Significantly boosted FPS on the natural vision evolved mod. It\'s actually running as good as the vanilla game did now. That is quite a feat considering how resource heavy the mods are.
