Best Witcher 3 Steel Swords

Lore-wise, the steel sword is mistaken for a witcher’s primary weapon, but in reality, it is just used to hunt down armored foes, which usually have metal on their bodies. However, the silver sword is often used for hunting down monsters as they do not have armor as soldiers do.

Toussaint Knight’s Steel sword (Crafted)

The Toussaint Knight’s steel sword is, without a doubt, the best steel sword in Witcher 3. It is easily the best of the best, having +300 armor-piercing, absolutely decimating foes it encounters in its way.

This sword deals 745-911 damage, which is insane. If this is not enough for you, then the Toussaint Knight sword also deals +100% critical damage, has a +30% Quen sign intensity bonus, +20% chance to deal a critical blow, and last but not least, a +15% chance to cause burning. This sword is an absolute beast.

Hjalmar’s Steel sword (Relic)

Hjalmar’s steel sword can sometimes also rival the Toussaint Knight’s sword. It deals 734-898 damage, has a +45-200% critical hit damage bonus, and gives an additional +2-3% experience from killing humans and non-humans. This sword is completely on another level due to its extremely high damage.

Tor Lara (Relic)

The Tor Lara sword deals 338-414 damage, which is enormous. The best thing about this weapon is the +140 vitality it provides, so players don’t have to worry too much about health and keep tanking the enemy. It also increases Aard sign intensity by +19, a 12% chance to cause burning, and a 3% chance to instantly kill. Keep in mind, the minimum level to wield Tor Lara Sword is level 43. The Tor Lara sword costs 1211 gold.

The Glory of the North (Relic)

The Glory of the North sword deals around 320-400. This is partly the reason why it is so high on this list. Its other abilities include a +8% chance to increase Igni intensity and a +6 % chance to cause burning. They are not really super effective, but their damage output earns it this spot.

Ultimatum (Relic)

The Ultimatum sword has one of the best Witcher 3 steel sword designs. Not only that, but it also deals 302-370 damage; it has a little bit of everything, i.e., +7% Igni sign intensity, +10% critical hit damage bonus, +3% critical hit chance, and +8% chance to stagger opponents.

Mourner (Relic)

The Mourner packs 327-399 damage to enemies. It is very good against armored opponents; this is because it has a +18 armor-piercing bonus. It also has a +20% chance to land a critical hit, which is even better.

Getting a little to its monster-hunting side, the sword has a +9% chance to increase Yrden sign intensity. This sword can also be great for leveling up because it grants an additional +2% EXP from killing humans or non-humans. The sword only costs 692 gold, has a minimum level requirement of 41, and is also considered as one of the best in-game swords.

Dancer (Relic)

Despite its delicate design, the Dancer sword does not lag behind in damage at all. It deals 328-400 Damage. It’s a +10% chance to land a critical hit and a +7% chance to cause bleeding to go by beautifully. Like the Mourner, this sword also has the same +2% EXP boost, making it great for increasing your level. It costs 1384 and Requires 41 levels, both of which are a little ok, but they are worth the feats this sword provides.

Wolf (Relic)

The Wolf sword lives up to its name, having a +62 armor-piercing and +4% chance to cause bleeding. Both are great for hunting humans and non-humans alike. The wolf sword also deals 319-389 damage. It has a unique feat of +4% gold earned hunting down foes. The sword has a minimum wielding level of 40 and costs 819 gold.

Gwestog (Relic)

Due to its unique design, the Gwenstog has a 10% chance of dismembering, which basically means it can cut off a hand, leg, or head—instantly killing your opponent. Moreover, there is a +9% chance of increasing Quen sign intensity and a +2% chance of freezing. This sword requires a minimum level of 43 to wield. It also costs 1080 gold.

Inis (Relic)

With it dealing 310-378 damage, the Inis sword has a +29 armor-piercing bonus, +2% chance to land a critical blow, and +3% chance to poison. Making it the perfect sword to use against humans and, in some cases, humanoid monsters. It also has a +1% EXP gain bonus, making it a good choice for farming EXP. It costs 670 gold and has a minimum level requirement of 39, which is pretty good.

Faroe Blade (Master Item)

The Faroe Blade totally earns its place among relics. Not only does it deal 289-353 damages, which is very high for master items, it also has a +75% critical hit, which is enormous. It is followed by a +3% chance to cause bleeding, making it an overriding choice amongst other relics for hunting humans and humanoid creatures. The Faroe does have a minimum level requirement of 37 and costs 603 gold.

The Barber-Surgeon is a great all-rounder because it has a little bit of everything. Firstly, its damage ranges from 331-405, and it has a +8% Aard sign intensity and a +5% chance to stun. Because of its sharp design, it has a +8% chance to dismember. Secondly, it has the highest EXP bonus you can earn from any steel sword, that is, +4% bonus from both humans and non-humans.

Devine (Relic)

The Devine sword deals excellent damage to armored enemies. It is 339-415 damage paired with a +42 armor-piercing bonus and is a menace for enemies like soldiers or bandits. On top of that, it has a +9% chance of increasing Aard sign intensity, a +7% chance to cause stun, and gives a +3% bonus EXP after killing foes. The only reason why it is ranked so low on this list is because of its high-level requirement, that is, 43. Steel swords like the Wolf or Faroe blade easily replace this weapon’s spot. Nevertheless, this weapon is still a beast.

Daystar (Relic)

The Daystar steel sword is an excellent choice if your play style is Igni focused. This is because it deals additional +8 fire damage, has a +8% chance to cause burning. This is backed by its 339-415 damage. This sword also grants additional +3% gold. Like the Devine sword, this sword also has a high-level requirement to wield, i.e., 43. This weapon costs 753 gold.

Longclaw (Relic)

The Longclaw, as the name suggests, is a long steel sword. It deals 327-399 damage with a +38 armor-piercing bonus. It is excellent for hunting armored humans and monsters alike, as it also has a +9% Yrden sign intensity and a +2% chance to dismember.  Players gain an additional 4% EXP after defeating foes. This weapon has a high-level requirement of 41 and costs 842 gold.

Ashrune (Relic)

The Ashrune sword has a unique design with a curved hilt and sharp edges, giving it a +2% chance to dismember humans or humanoid opponents. It deals 319-389 damage, which is decent. It has a 4% Critical hit damage bonus and a +5% chance to freeze. It also grants an additional +2% experience by killing humans and monsters. Its minimum required level is 40 and costs 844 gold.

Harvall (Relic)

The Harvall is a stream-lined broad sword capable of landing attacks in quick succession. It deals 320-392 damage. Players who prefer using Igni may find this sword as an optimal option, as it has high damage and has a +11% Igni sign intensity. Moreover, it causes a +9% chance to cause burning.

Forgotten Vran Sword (Relic)

The Forgotten Vran sword is ranked last on my Witcher 3 steel sword list solely because of its high minimum level requirement to damage ratio. It requires a minimum level of 40 to be wielded and deals 316-386 damage. It does have decent feats like a +13% critical hit damage bonus and a +10% chance to stun. It costs 913 gold.
