Twitch Kicks Out LGB Alliance From Charity List Following Criticism

Twitch has excluded the LGB Alliance from its list of charities after users spoke out about including the allegedly "anti-trans" organization on the platform

Twitch has a lot of different content. But a usual thing among many of its top streamers is an occasional charity stream.

To make fundraising easier for charitable causes, Twitch added its unique tool to create ease so content creators can collect funds without needing an external platform.

The feature holds a long list of charities to which streamers can donate, and on December 7, Twitch added even more. One of these groups, however, was under heavy criticism from viewers.
The viewers labeled that group as an “anti-trans” organization.

Major Takeaways

  • Twitch has a lot of streamers who raise funds for charity. So, Twitch included its tools for charity collection with ease.
  • Twitch extended its list of charities by adding LGB Alliance and many more. The viewers heavily criticized Twitch for adding LGB Alliance to its list of charities.
  • Twitch responded to this matter and removed LGB Alliance from its list of charities.

The group which is under heavy criticism is the LGB Alliance. LGB Alliance, on its website, states,

We acknowledge that *** is binary, consisting of female and male, and that *** is determined at conception, observed at birth, and recorded. We oppose the use of rare medical differences in sexual development to call into question the binary nature of ***.”

After this statement, viewers pushed Twitch to ban LGB Alliance from its platform. And Twitch has just done that.

Twitch Responds To The LGB Alliance Backlash

In response to a Uservoice post on the matter, Twitch has confirmed that they have removed LGB Alliance from its platform to the curb, citing a possible violation of its “hateful conduct policies” or a violation of its “Off-Service policy.”

We have removed the LGB Alliance from our list of approved charities after a thorough review,” Twitch said and followed up with,

Twitch does not allow charities that violate our hateful conduct policies on Twitch, or whose organization or leadership engages in or promotes behaviors that violate our Off-Service policy, to operate on the platform.”

Twitch also responded to the previous post in their statement regarding the criticism of Autism Speaks on inclusion in their charity list. Autism Speaks is also under fire for spreading hate and misinformation.

“The scale of this program may mean that people within our community may not agree with or support all of the included organizations, even if they are currently compliant with our policies,” Twitch told of Autism Speaks.
