Developer Don’t Nod is currently looking forward to out its brand-new action RPG in the name of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. This unique action-adventure will have the player embarking on choice-based gameplay. Ahead of the title’s release later in February, a new trailer has detailed a crucial gameplay mechanic—the ability to respecialize your character stats anytime and anywhere you want.
It appears that both characters will feature their own dedicated skill trees, pretty much like how RPGs typically are in their gameplay. You’ll be gradually upgrading both Red and Antea’s skills as you course through the game and level up in experience. Interestingly enough, the ability to reallocate the character’s built-up stats seems quite convenient to me and is something that most RPGs easily lack.
If you are struggling against specific enemies or if you’d like a change in your combat style, you can respec your skill trees – anytime and anywhere. Go all-in on ranged attacks or prefer the sword, and try out Antea’s spectral combat abilities. Adapt to your enemies – and face any challenges,” reads the subtitles of the latest trailer.
Speaking of skill trees, however, I was able to nab a quick screengrab from the trailer that showcases someone upgrading one of the character’s skills. In addition, there appear to be multiple tabs to the skill trees, with the player being able to switch to the next or previous one using the triggers on their controller. Apparently, each tab will focus on a certain type of character property, like how God of War does it, which Banishers takes direct inspiration from.
On a side note, the developers over at Don’t Nod recently expanded on Ghosts of New Eden’s side quests, premise, and overall setting in a separate blog post. Outside of the complication of Red choosing between Antea — the love of his life — and the Banisher oath that he already swore, the title will feature consequences to major player actions. Tread carefully in the lands of New Eden, I tell you.
