Call of Duty has seen over a dozen entries over its lifespan, and a slew of them have been quite successful and popular. There have also been some games or features, however, that were outright canceled during mid-dev. The Twitter user @mangafigurines has recently uncovered one such title. He has shared over ten minutes of gameplay for COD: Future Warfare, a futuristic sci-fi project that was in dev back in 2010 before being canned.

The 10-minute gameplay scoop showcases the “Moonbase Assault” mission during the beginning, featuring intense campaign gameplay seen in many Call of Duty titles. Regardless, it is worth noting that Josh initially unveiled Future Warfare in a tweet three days ago. It featured over 2 minutes of gameplay and showed the same mission. The legitimacy of these leaks has been verified by one of the devs who worked on the dumped title.

The dev @Brian Bright on Twitter —who supposedly worked on the project chimed in to add his two cents. The game was named “NX1” and was supposed to come out in place of Call of Duty: Ghosts. About two or three campaign missions were done, along with a bunch of multiplayer content. The footage of the mission that is featured on the moon was just the team of devs “learning the engine” by creating a low-gravity environment.
The Neversoft team was allegedly brewing the project before it was canceled forever. Nevertheless, possible remnants and inspirations from Future Warfare did make it into the subsequent COD releases. Call of Duty: Ghosts, and especially Infinite Warfare, borrowed a lot of the elements we see in this footage alone.

This is also not the first time a COD project has been ditched mid-development. Amidst the ensuing chaos due to the leak, another insider also came forward to reveal unseen footage of the canceled War mode from COD: Black Ops 4. All in all, we suggest taking the leaked video with a pinch of salt just for good measures. A lot about the game has still been lost to history despite credible sources sharing the footage behind the scenes.
