Story Highlights
- CD Projekt is the IP owner of The Witcher franchise, and a new game code-named “Polaris” is in the works.
- The latest update on Polaris is a good one, as CD Projekt shares how development is progressing.
- Work has remained consistent on Polaris, and is now about to transition into the next phase.
In a new IR report shared by CD Projekt with its investors on its YouTube channel, the industry giant has shared an exciting new update pertaining to the next mainline iteration in The Witcher franchise, code-named Polaris at the moment. Between April 30, 2024 and July 31, 2024, development on project Polaris has progressed “steadily.”
This, in turn, has allowed the studio to transition into the next phase of game development for the next Witcher game, which is full-scale production. For reference, skip to “4:23” in the following video.
Michał Nowakowski, the conference call’s host and the company co-CEO, said,
The situation in our ongoing projects this year is pretty stable and they have been progressing at a consistent pace. As a result, the differences between the end of April and the end of July are marginal. The sizes of each team have changed only slightly since the last status update we shared three months ago. The Polaris team is maintaining the right scale to enter the production base very soon while our work on both announced and unannounced projects is steadily progressing.”
The Witcher 4 Has No Definitive Release Window Yet
Taking a calculated guess, it’s fairly far-fetched to say that The Witcher 4 could be releasing next year, so don’t hold your breath despite this recent update. CD Projekt is currently making headway on a number of other projects as well, including Orion, which is a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, allegedly rumored to feature multiplayer as well.
As for what we know about the forthcoming Witcher title, Geralt will see his return in the game, but not as the protagonist. The gameplay could be “more intense” and attempt to “go beyond” current RPGs. Of course, take any and all info with a pinch of salt—nothing has been confirmed so far officially.
The Witcher series in gaming traces its origins back to 2007 with its first mainline release, with the latest rendition being The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, launched in 2015 and revamped to current-gen standards in December 2022.
