Story Highlights
- Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is an upcoming fighting game by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
- The game’s release date is currently unknown, but a new rating on IMDA points toward a 2024 launch.
- Being the next installment in the iconic Budokai Tenkaichi series, Sparking! Zero is too hyped up.
Bandai Namco has won quite a few hearts with the reveal of Budokai Tenkaichi’s next rendition in the name of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, finally making it known that this iconic series is back from the dead. Now as discourse wages on relating to the title’s release date, I believe we might have one sort of confirmation that Sparking! Zero is at least coming out later this year.
And that’s according to IMDA (Infocomm Media Development Authority) which is the official entertainment rating body of Singapore. The game’s recent registration on there mentions “2024” as the year of release, and if previous reports are anything to go by, specifically Sparking! Zero also getting rated by the ESRB which hints at an imminent launch as well, it’s unlikely that this one’s getting pushed to 2025 now.
You might have noticed that the rating only mentions the PlayStation 5 as the platform the game’s releasing on, but don’t let that fool you. IMDA often disregards PC and Xbox consoles, as also pointed out by Kurakasis — reliable industry insider — who happened to spot a listing of Unknown 9: Awakening on IMDA last year which didn’t enlist systems other than PlayStation at the time.
It is, however, expected to launch on all platforms that it was slated to release on earlier, so no surprises there. And as the listing of Unknown 9 — which went live in late 2023 — mentioned, the game’s release window was also later confirmed to be 2024.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Is Every Budokai Tenkaichi’s Fan Dream Come True
Sporting a roster that’s allegedly going to be the biggest ever in Budokai Tenkaichi history, Sparking! Zero is packing a ton of anticipation and for all the right reasons. I have a feeling that this franchise is now going to return to its former glory, thanks to all that we’ve seen of the game up until now. The visuals look on point, and the animation is seemingly hitting the “next-gen” element on the head with it.
