Fortnite Chapter 4 is going to be unlike anything fans have seen before, and this is all thanks to Unreal Engine 5.1.
Unreal Engine 5.1 is going to take advantage of next-gen features and will significantly improve the overall graphics in the game. So what exactly is Unreal Engine 5.1, and why are fans over the moon about it?
- Epic has introduced Unreal Engine 5.1 for Chapter 4 of the game.
- Unreal Engine 5.1 will include Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps, and Temporal Super Resolution.
- It is accessible for Fortnite Battle Royale on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
Epic’s use of Unreal Engine 5.1 has allowed them to build intricate and detail-oriented areas, one such being the Fortnite Battle Royal Island. All of this is thanks to the amazing features Unreal Engine 5.1 has to offer. These features include:
- Virtual Shadow Maps,
- Temporal Super Resolution.
In layman’s terms, Nanite basically helps in the architectural aspect of the game. Through the use of Nanite, designers will be able to add intricate buildings with the help of millions of polygons. But that is not even the best part.
All of these elements can, in fact, be drawn in real-time without losing the quality. Thanks to Nanite, our Fortnite experience is about to get ten times better.
Unreal Engine 5.1’s Lumen will help enhance shadows in the game. It, in fact, helps improve realistic ray-traced reflections on glossy surfaces as well as water surfaces. Now, this may seem like a small add-on, but usually, the smallest elements end up setting a game apart from the rest.
Furthermore, Lumen also introduced real-time global illumination at 60fps. Virtual Shadow Maps will be adding on to Lumen. Through the Shadow Maps, each and every element or character in the game will have realistic self-shadowing.
Lastly, Temporal Super Resolution will ensure that the game has high-quality visuals while maintaining a high frame rate.
