God of War Sales Soar To 23 Million After Its Launch On PC

God of War has been one of the best-known selling points for Sony’s PlayStation consoles for more than a decade now. Developed exclusively for PlayStation by one of the PlayStation studio subsidiaries, Santa Monica Studios, the action-adventure series is based on Norse mythology.

God of War(2018), is the eighth game of the series. Released in 2018, the game is considered the best game in the series. It also sold a record number of copies. Within three days of its exclusive release for PlayStation 4, the game sold almost 3 million copies. The number soared to 5 million in a month.

Now after 4 years of its launch, God of War has sold over 23 million copies, as announced by Sony in its quarterly presentation. It was reported by one of the most credible game journalists on Twitter, Benji.

God of War is a sequel to God of War III which was released in 2010. The game takes place 300 years after the events of GoW III. Unlike most other games of the series, God of War is not based on Greek mythology, rather history loosely adapts some aspects of Norse mythology.

Kratos, the main protagonist of the game, a Spartan and the son of the Greek god Zeus somehow ends up in Midgard, a country in Old Scandinavia. He along with his son, Atreus, goes on the journey to the top of nine realms to honor the wishes of his deceased wife Faye. She wanted her ashes to be scattered there.

God of War was only available for PS4 until its release for PC in January this year. And since its launch on PC, the game’s sales have soared again crossing almost 23 million copies sold. That number is up from 20 million copies sold at the end of last year. The number of estimated sold PC copies of God of War is around 3 million.

The next game of the series God of War Ragnarok, which takes place 3 years after the events of God of War, will be released on the 9th of November for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
