Gotham Knights is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games to release this year, right alongside the likes of God of War Ragnarok, Bayonetta 3, and others. However, that anticipation might come to a standstill if what’s circulating around the internet at the moment turns out to be true.
Reportedly, a ResetEra user going by the name of Axecidentally has reason to believe that the upcoming action RPG won’t be allowing next-gen hardware to live up to its true potential. Instead, things will be spun in a retrograde format, forcing aspiring players to experience Gotham Knights at a mere 30 FPS cap only.
The Rundown:
- Gotham Knights, being released as the successor to the iconic Batman games by WB Games, is scheduled to release on October 21, 2022.
- Despite the promising graphical quality in the reveal trailer of Gotham Knights, a new rumor indicates that the title won’t be allowing players to enjoy the game at 60 FPS.
- The PlayStation 5 version of the game is also reported not to arrive with any “Performance” or “Graphics” modes.
Taking to ResetEra to make the big claim, Axecidentally has dropped his two cents on the matter of buying Gotham Knights if it’s locked at 30 FPS only. The concerned party appears to believe that the “game does not run at 60 FPS.”
What makes the situation even worse is that the PlayStation 5 variant of the RPG won’t be comprising any distinct optimizations, such as the “Fidelity” or the “Performance’ modes prevalent in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. All you’ll be doing is tweaking the brightness, contrast, saturation, and HDR—nothing but the usual stuff.
We can certainly say that many aspiring fans are not happy to hear about this, especially if the rumor comes true. With that said, we advise taking this info in with a grain of salt, since Axecidentally isn’t a known industry insider. It’s their word against the rest of the world, so do assess the situation diligently before getting your hopes down.
Those who pre-ordered the game have started to express their concern as the rumor becomes more and more widespread. For now, players will have to settle for playing Gotham Knights at a 30 FPS framerate at 4K resolution with ray tracing enabled.
No flexibility will be up for grabs at this point as it’s not likely to have freedom over the title’s graphical settings from what Axecidentally is proclaiming on the ResetEra thread.
The fact that Gotham Knights is slated to be a next-gen release only with no love for current-gen consoles truly makes us wonder where the developers are headed with the game. If the 30 FPS framerate lock rumors turn out to be genuine, Warner Games Montreal can surely expect an uproar in the community.
In relatively recent times, the trophy list for Gotham Knights emerged online, hinting at the potential plots for many of the games’ mainline story missions. However, the latter still doesn’t come across as a major spoiler that should turn you off, at least not as much as the focus of this article.
Do let us know what you think of Gotham Knights at this point in the comments section ahead. In the meantime, we’re off to catch up on some Batman: Arkham Asylum.
