Hogwarts Legacy saw its launch earlier this month amidst all the controversy surrounding it. Despite the shackles that attempted to prevent it from succeeding, the game has gone to achieve milestones.
David Haddad, WB Games president, sat down with Variety last week for an exclusive interview regarding Hogwarts Legacy. The title is the first major success in adapting the Wizarding World into an enjoyable video game experience.
Commenting on player engagement on Feb. 16, Haddad claimed it to be “spectacular.” Furthermore, he stated, “we have tracked 152 million hours played, 115 million potions brewed, 173 million magical plants grown followed by 556 million Dark Wizards defeated“.
As per the stats provided to Variety by WB Games on Tuesday, these stats have increased. Hogwarts Legacy has topped 267 million hours played along with drastic increases in other areas of the statistics. It’s logical to assume that these numbers will continue to grow for the foreseeable future.
Haddad also added to the comment by stating they were “very pleased with the launch and see a bright future for their other platform launches“. Hogwarts Legacy launched with severe optimization issues on current-gen consoles and PC. However, having more time to polish the game for other platforms is sure to be an advantage.
The controversy sparked by J.K. Rowling’s views has attempted to sabotage the game’s performance in vain. The initial boycott movement regressed into an unhinged harassment campaign. Regardless of these unfortunate events and performance issues, Hogwarts Legacy has continued to find success.
The game has continued to find success despite these shortcomings and performance issues and the future of this IP is looking bright. We talk about how this experience holds up in our review of Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. Watch our initial impressions of the game ahead.
