The Like a Dragon series continues its tradition of having a star-studded cast. In what is a first for this series, however, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will also include Hollywood actors such as Danny Trejo and Daniel Dae Kim in its massive cast lineup. The newest trailer featuring the English dub showed off a small glimpse of both actors’ performances.
The trailer also shows off other new and familiar voices. Kaiji Tang reprises his role as Ichiban while Yong Yea replaces Darryl Kurylo for the role of Kazuma Kiryu. Daniel Dae Kim plays a Tojo Clan Yakuza by the name of Masataka Ebina while Danny Trejo plays the role of Dwight Mendez, the leader of a gang by the name of the Barracudas. Both characters appear to be potential foils to our main characters.
Surprisingly, it appears that only one of the actors is lending their likeness alongside their performance. Dwight uses Danny Trejo’s likeness and performance while it appears that only Daniel Dae Kim’s performance is used for Masataka Ebina.
This is neither actor’s first video game performance either. Earlier this year, Danny Trejo lent his likeness and performance for Crime Boss: Rockay City which included a variety of famous film stars such as Michael Madsen, Chuck Norris, and Danny Glover. Meanwhile, Daniel Dae Kim voices the iconic Johnny Gat from the Saints Row series.
Having film and TV actors as in-game characters has been a long-term tradition for the Like a Dragon/Yakuza series with the likes of even Takeshi Kitano (yes, the one from Takeshi’s Castle) starring as important characters in the series. The latest game in the series, Like a Dragon: Gaiden also included actors such as Yasukaze Motomiya and Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi for the roles of Kosei Shishido and Yuki Tsuruno respectively.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is the eighth mainline entry in the series and is shaping up to be the conclusion of the story of series mainstay Kazuma Kiryu. The game is advertised as the largest game in series history, with a map three times the size of the previous game. Masayoshi Yokoyama, the current head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, said that the game is so long that if you try playing through it in one go, you’ll get sick.
