MStory Highlights
- Metro Exodus is a first-person shooter, and the third mainline iteration in the long-running Metro franchise.
- The game has clocked more than 10 million units in lifetime sales, having been released on multiple platforms.
- The developers have confirmed that the next mainline Metro game will arrive later in 2024 when it’s ready.
The Metro franchise of first-person shooting video games is one of the most engaging shooters you can play even today, despite the series being a little outdated by today’s standards. Having personally played all mainline titles in the franchise, I’m glad to see the developer reporting glad tidings on its end, confirming that Metro Exodus has rolled over 10 million units to date.
Metro Exodus turns 5 years old today, and has now sold over 10 Million copies.
Metro will return in VR with Metro Awakening from @vertigogames in 2024 – and the next mainline Metro from @4AGames…

As per the roadmap laid out by X handle of Metro, the franchise kicked off first in 2010, when 4A Games pushed out Metro 2033, the first game in the Metro series. Up until now, there’s been a total of four more titles added to the Metro catalog: Last Light, Redux, Exodus, and Metro Awakening, which is a VR game slated to debut for the PS VR2 sometime later this year.
For reference, Exodus sold 6 million+ copies back in 2022, with the developer saying, “We are thrilled by the continued success of Metro Exodus and we thank you, our wonderful players and community, for your support on this journey” at the time. The game was initially released in 2019, just so you know, until it got ported to more consoles later on.

That is to say, Exodus got treated to an Enhanced Edition in May 2021, specifically for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, bringing advanced visuals, bonus content, and more to the table for franchise fans. That said, this isn’t the end of the Metro series. The developer has confirmed that a new Metro title is coming in 2024 “when it’s ready.”
