Story Highlights
- Mortal Kombat 1 is another reboot of the long-running Mortal Kombat franchise.
- The game has been received well by fans and continues to get post-launch content.
- A feature that Mortal Kombat 1 desperately wants from the devs is cross-play, as per a new poll.
Mortal Kombat 1 has hit home positively, sitting well with both hardcore and new fans of the franchise and bringing forth a reboot of the in-game universe following the events of the previous game. Although the title has been revered by players for multiple reasons, it seems that there’s still one crucial feature missing from the fighter title that many have been asking for a while now—crossplay.
Ed Boon, the game’s director, and NetherRealm Studios’ Creative Director, has hosted a poll on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, telling fans that more online features for Mortal Kombat 1 are being worked on (good news, that). However, it’s said that he cannot share when exactly would these added functionalities arrive for the fighter title.
The poll in the post asks fans about the feature they’d love to see the most. Out of the options given, including “Ranked play switch to 2/3,” “Ping Filter,” “Wi-Fi Filter,” and “Crossplay,” the latter has received the highest percentage of votes from the side of users. This pretty much cements people’s choices and gives developers a clear vision as to what to concentrate on and what to push in the backlog.
We are working on additional online features for MK1. Can't announce any dates/specifics at the moment. Which feature would you like to see the most/first?

For reference, Mortal Kombat 11 didn’t have crossplay either, and so didn’t one of its fiercest competitors, Tekken 7. But as we’re out and about in the new generation now, Mortal Kombat 1 looks likely to get the cross-platform functionality in the coming few weeks, while Tekken 8 is already confirmed to receive the feature when it makes landfall on January 26, 2024.
In case you missed it, NetherRealm Studios uploaded a gameplay trailer for Omni-Man about three days ago, following the menacing character’s reveal last month. Although the latter did give us a glimpse of what to expect from the Viltrumite, the new video goes over his abilities, combat moves, and that absolutely terrifying fatality in a little more depth.
Mortal Kombat 1 came out on September 14, 2023, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, skipping other last-gen systems. eXputer reviewed the game and rated it 4.5/5, highlighting its excellent character development, beautiful visuals, and compelling narrative that keeps players on the edge of their seats. If you’re new to the title, here’s our Mortal Kombat 1 tier list that ranks all the fighters.
