Palworld Makes Record-Breaking Sales 8 Hours Into Release

Palworld is 2024’s latest sensation, stretching across the corners of the gaming industry by large and far. Japan-based developer Pocket Pair has crafted quite the unique blend of Pokemon and Ark: Survival Evolved here, and the result is Pokemon-like creatures running around, with you, a human protagonist, wielding guns and exploring Palpagos Islands in a quest for survival. As of 8 hours into the game’s release, Palworld has already rolled over more than 1 million units. Incredible.

It bears mentioning that the game is only available in early access at the moment on both PC via Steam and Xbox Series X|S consoles through Game Pass. Microsoft announced last week that Palworld would be getting added to its flagship subscription service’s already-immense catalog on the very first day of its release, and that’s what has happened, now that the open-world survival title is finally out.

In addition, Palworld has done remarkably well on Steam in terms of the number of concurrent players shooting their way to the title. Earlier today, it clocked over a 370,000 user count on Steam according to data provided by the unofficial tracker website SteamDB. And taking a look at the real-time update now, that figure has gone way up, with over 550,000 players having their way with the game. 

This also shot up Palworld straight to Steam’s top 3 most-played games ever, trailing right behind the goliaths Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2. At the moment, some of the features that the survival game supports include multiplayer where you can hop on an adventure together with your friends. Do note that specialized PvP support is coming in the near future.

Palworld was released on January 19, 2024, in early access for the Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Game Pass. The developers say, “We plan to improve the quality of the game by making various improvements throughout early access for at least one year,” so a full-scale release is expected sometime in 2025.
