Payday 3’s First Major Patch Gets Delayed To Mid-October

The patch needs some changes that require the team to go through console certification again.

Story Highlights

  • Payday 3 was supposed to receive its first major patch today, comprising over 200 quality-of-life improvements. Unfortunately, it has been delayed till mid-October.
  • The cause of this delay is to “ensure its stability,” and the patch needs some changes that would require Payday 3 to go through console certification again.
  • Until the patch is ready to launch, the PS5 bonus content will remain unredeemable.

Payday 3’s first big patch, containing over 200 quality-of-life improvements, has been delayed to mid-October to “ensure its stability.” The announcement also confirmed that the patch needs some changes, requiring the game to go through the console certification process again. While a specific date has not yet been given, we know that the PS5 bonus content will remain unredeemable until the patch is ready.

Despite attracting millions of players over the last month, Payday 3 has failed to reach many fans’ expectations. Starbreeze seemingly wants to make Payday 3 stand out in the genre, thus the drive to fully support the title post-launch. The studio has also outed a schedule showcasing some of the content updates coming in the future, the first one being the major patch containing 200+ quality-of-life improvements slated for today.

However, due to the studio wanting to ensure the stability of today’s patch, it has ultimately been delayed to mid-October, with no specific date given. In addition, the patch needs some changes that require it to go through console certification again, which could be why PS5 bonus content cannot be redeemed until the patch is ready for release.

I have invested a good chunk of my time playing Payday 2, which is why I can understand the fans’ frustrations caused by the underwhelming performance of its sequel. One Twitter user replied to the official tweet, “With all the respect in the world, you guys need to know you got a few apologies left before EVERYBODY is fed up…[sad face],” to which Payday 3 Twitter answered, “We know, this is not what we wanted either [sad face].

It is also unclear how this may affect the release date of subsequent patches and content updates. Starbreeze has several things planned that it has only brushed upon, one of which is the progression system, which did not make it to Starbreeze’s content schedule. Lead producer Andreas Penninger confirmed it in one of the recent Twitch streams, but as with every other update, he did not disclose the details.

We have heard you, and we are working on a bunch of changes to the progression system. I can’t say exactly what yet. We’re working on it. Then we’re going to test it and verify it to make sure it’s in line with how we want it to work and also based on your guys’ feedback,” says Andreas Penninger.
