Story Highlights
- Perfect Dark is seemingly in trouble, as Jeff Grubb claimed in a new podcast episode.
- He said it’s in a rough state, and its direction has been undecided since the reveal.
- Multiple insiders shared a similar outlook regarding the awaited Xbox exclusive.
The anticipated Xbox exclusive Perfect Dark has been radio silent since its announcement. Now, the popular insider Jeff Grubb has claimed that the game is in a “very rough state.” During a new episode of the Giant Bombcast podcast (around 28:06), Jeff claimed that the reboot has not come together since the reveal. The awaited entry is likely stuck in development hell, as there has not been much progress since the reveal.
The sentiment by Jeff Grubb was only met with nods from fellow insiders in the gaming industry. Shinobi and Liam Robertson implied they heard similar details regarding Perfect Dark’s state. The owner of the RPG Site and assistant editor at VG247, Alex Donaldson, also said that he heard “crazy stories” regarding the game’s development—but has kept them a secret out of respect for the devs.
Been hearing for years that Perfect Dark is in a rough state, sounds like it’s in a very rough state. […] And it doesn’t sound like it’s really come together in any way since then [since reveal] and like Crystal Dynamics coming on board to come help on that,” said Jeff Grubb.
The Future Of Perfect Dark Appears Bleak
During the podcast, Jeff clarified that the first-person shooter aspect is still not finalized, as devs are unsure of its direction. All these recent developments are surprising because another popular insider said the reboot was in good shape—provided it was two years ago. Regardless, I recommend taking the rumors with a huge grain of salt.
