PlayStation 5 Pre-Orders Are Over as Console Goes Out of Stock At Most Retailers

Did Sony Mess up?

Yesterday, Sony announced the price and pre-order details for PlayStation 5. The Digital Edition would go for $399, while the Disc Edition will be sold at $499. Everything looks great, and after the event. Sony also tweeted out that pre-orders will start today, and PS5 can be pre-ordered at major retailers like Walmart, Best-Buy, GameStop, Amazon, and Others.

24 Hours later, PlayStation 5 is out of stock from everywhere. Walmart, GameStop, and Amazon clearly say “out of stock”. For some Countries Pre-Orders on Amazon Have ended, while others say that “this item is currently unavailable.

Best-Buy does say It is in stock. However, when you pre-order it, and reach to the final place. It tells you that PlayStation 5 is out of stock.

Update: Best Buy is now canceling orders. It seems that a lot of users will be getting this email.

I really doubt that all pre-orders were made by fans. We have seen it before, that a lot of re-sellers pre-order items like these in Bulk. Afterward, they sell them at a higher price on eBay, causing stock issues for the companies. Sony’s decision to make pre-orders live after the event is also questionable. That goes on to say, Eric Lempel himself said in Summer Game Feast, that pre-order notifications won’t be handed out on a minute notice.

“I think it’s safe to say… we’ll let you know when preorder will happen. It’s not going to happen with a minute’s notice. We’re going to at some point let you know when you can preorder PlayStation 5. So, please, don’t feel like you have to go run out and line up anywhere until you receive official notice on how that will work.  PlayStation’s global head of marketing, Eric Lempel In an Interview with Geoff Keighley”

Fans are showing their frustration on Twitter. The majority of them wrote that they were busy for a few hours at work, and a few hours later they couldn’t pre-order PS5. Some went on to say that they filled PSN to remind them of pre-order. However, that feature turned out to be completely useless.

“Sony, you lost control and you betrayed your fans. You promised we would be given ample notice before pre-orders start and then just a bit ago I checked my phone to see that Best Buy started TWO HOURS AGO!!! You call that notice? This is ridiculous and you need to make up for it. wrote a Twitter user”

Microsoft on the other hand has been a bit smart. They have given their fans a 10 days notice, before Pre-Orders for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S would go live.

It Seems that Amazon In Most Countries hasn’t started taking PS5 Pre-Orders. You have one more chance before the consoles are restocked at these retailers.
