Story Highlights
- Rockstar has revealed the first look at Grand Theft Auto 6.
- Ahead of the official reveal, the trailer was leaked online, prompting the company to change its plans.
- GTA 6 is set to arrive next year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
After a decade’s passing, Rockstar has unveiled the first teaser trailer of the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 although the reveal wasn’t exactly graceful. Ahead of the official release date of December 5 and 6 AM PST, an X (formerly known as Twitter) profile leaked the full teaser online. The account has since been suspended but Rockstar didn’t waste any time and decided to launch the trailer early.
Just a bit over a minute, the trailer gives us a glance at some of the characters including the protagonist Lucia and her companion, who will spearhead the story of Grand Theft Auto 6. Moving on, we got to see the modern rendition of Vice City, with beautiful beaches, streets, clubs, and more in cutting-edge visuals.

The pre-teaser hype soared to an all-time high given the decade-long anticipation for the next GTA installment. Additionally, the official GTA 6 trailer has gained over 26 million views in only a few hours and keeps rising despite being leaked ahead of the official reveal. While the internet shenanigans didn’t impact the trailer’s view count, it seems to have demoralized the developers.
I was hoping to watch this for the first time tomorrow along with my fellow teammates and coworkers. I feel we deserved that moment. https://t.co/rK8jIrSn38

Following a tweet by Rockstar’s official account, several members of the dev team shared their thoughts on the matter. Javier Altman, a Senior Gameplay Animator at the studio, expressed how the team deserved the moment of watching this teaser trailer together for the first time.
Elsewhere, some people are claiming to boycott Grand Theft Auto 6, presumably as a form of satire, if it does not come to Xbox Game Pass. There’s a fair chance that this is an attempt at trolling as it usually goes with the internet but given Rockstar’s standing, the trailer’s high view count, and the Hogwarts Legacy saga earlier this year, the writing already appears to be on the wall.
With all the excitement for what most people are calling a historic moment in gaming history, even we expect Rockstar to add certain things to the game.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two has not mentioned a PC release in its official announcement.
