Playing Sonic Frontiers At 60 FPS On The Xbox Series S Is A Struggle

Prior to the game's release, SEGA confirmed that the game would run on 60 FPS on every current-gen console.

Sonic Frontiers appears to be locked at 30 FPS on Xbox Series S, as many users have complained. Also, there doesn’t seem to be an option to switch between Graphics and Performance modes. SEGA advertised that Sonic Frontiers would run 60 frames per second on Xbox Series S or any other current-gen console.

Many Twitter and Reddit users expressed their disappointment by posting their thoughts on social media. That led many people to consider refunding the game or not buying it at all for their Xbox Series S.

However, according to The Gamer, SEGA has released a workaround to fix this issue. It is yet to see if this workaround works for all Xbox Series S owners suffering from their game’s FPS being locked at 30.

Major Takeaways:

  • Sonic Frontiers is locked at 30 FPS on Xbox Series S.
  • The game was guaranteed to run at 60 FPS at 1080p on current-gen consoles.
  • The option to switch to performance mode is also not present in the Xbox Series S version of the game.
  • SEGA has suggested a workaround, but it isn’t working for most Xbox Series S owners.

Sonic Frontiers runs on 60 FPS at 1080p on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, as initially confirmed by SEGA. On the other hand, the game runs at 30 FPS on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game’s performance on Steam depends on the user’s individual PC specs.

Many other fans also expressed their disappointment through social media on different platforms. It also made people second guess SEGA’s words after they guaranteed 60 FPS on all current-gen consoles.

According to SEGA, the reason behind the FPS being locked at 30 on Xbox Series S is the 4K UHD Display. SEGA suggested that Xbox Series S owners should switch the display options of their TV to 1080p, which will fix the issue.

However, many Xbox Series S owners have reported that the workaround suggested by SEGA doesn’t work. Xbox Series S owners might have to wait several months for patches to come out and fix this issue.

It is also worth noting that the game runs on 30FPS at 4K on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. It appears that the game is very badly optimized for consoles, considering how powerful these consoles are.

Sonic Frontiers was released on November 8 on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Steam, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. It is a fast-paced open-world platform game that becomes much less entertaining to play on 30 FPS.

Despite the performance issues on consoles, the game’s PC version has received a fair amount of positive reviews on Steam.
