A “Big Announcement Unrelated To FFVII” Teased By Square Enix For 2023

2023 will reportedly be the "most exciting year yet."

Square Enix has fired all its cylinders to develop its next mainline project, Final Fantasy 16, which has been highly awaited by the community. The title has been in the brewer for a few years, and we saw a plethora of details slowly emerge during the last few months. However, fans may have more to look forward to for the new year.

Despite all the rage enfolding Final Fantasy 16, the Japanese company could reportedly be brewing more projects behind the scenes. The latest statement by Square Enix‘s game director and producer, Yoshinori Kitase, only solidifies the prospect. Moreover, 2023 could be a huge year, as teased by the producer during the greeting.

Major Takeaway

  • Yoshinori Kitase appeared on the Final Fantasy community portal run by Square Enix and teased the announcement of a secretive project while greeting the fans to celebrate the new year. Moreover, 2023 is seemingly going to be the most exciting year for the fans.
  • The project in question is unclear whether it concerns the Final Fantasy series or some other IP, but the former is more likely.
  • The unrelated game could be pointing toward the Final Fantasy Tactics or Final Fantasy IX Remakes, as they first appeared in the trusted Nvidia Leak.
  • 2023 appears to be jam-packed for Final Fantasy fans; we can expect the release of FFXVII and the news for the secretive project in the coming months.

Yoshinori Kitase appeared on the official Final Fantasy Portal Site along with other developers, greeted the fans, and also commemorated the beginning of the new year.

The producer teased the announcement of a project unrelated to FFXVII being brewed by Square Enix behind the curtains. Kitase noted, “There’s also another big announcement unrelated to FFVII that I can’t say anything about just yet.”

Square Enix’s game producer also iterated on the prominence of 2023 and how it will be a strong year for the giant Japanese conglomerate. “Rest assured we’re working hard to make sure 2023 is the most exciting year yet,” said the producer.

Additionally, Yoshinori updated us on the progress of the announced title in development, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and mentioned that more info would be revealed when the time is right. We will reportedly receive more info regarding the project this year.

Development is picking up speed on the title I’m producing, FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH. I’m sure many of your collective imaginations are running wild trying to picture how we’ll recreate some of the game’s most iconic scenes, and we’ll have more to share about that when the time is right,” wrote Kitase.

It is unclear whether the tease concerns the Final Fantasy series or another IP. However, it is likely referring to the former since the prospect was announced on the official Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Portal Site.

The unrelated title could be pointing towards either the Final Fantasy Tactics or Final Fantasy IX Remakes, as they initially emerged in the reputable Nvidia Leak but still have not been announced. Nvidia Leak professed many titles that were eventually announced in the past.

All in all, it makes sense for Yoshinori Kitase to tease a significant project instead of a smaller one. We can anticipate the project in question to be one of Square Enix’s largest until 2024. It is unclear whether we will exactly receive the announcement, but an official disclosure is more likely after Final Fantasy 16 is released.
