Star Wars Outlaws’ Length Will Not Be 200 Hours Like Assassin’s Creed, Dev Confirms

In an interview with VGC, the Star Wars Outlaws’ creative director, Julian Gerighty, clarified that the game will not feature 200 hours of content like the recent Assassin’s Creed titles. Instead, it will feature a reasonable amount of 30 hours for a normal playthrough, with completionists getting to enjoy over 50 to 60 hours. It is quite the usual amount for a Ubisoft entry, except for a few controversial exceptions over the years.

Very, very early on, we decided this is going to be a 25, 30 hours golden path adventure, 50 hours, 60 hours for completionists, and that is, for a guy with a family and a job, it’s still a fair amount of time,” said the dev.

The gameplay and amount of stuff to do is apparently by no means lacking. Playing through 30 hours of campaign in an open world can be an awarding experience without being cumbersome, after all. 

But it’s not Assassin’s Creed epic, 200 hours’ worth of gameplay, so that allows us to really focus on the detail, it allows us to focus, maybe with a smaller team, on executing something that is manageable.”

Some Planned Features Could Not Make It Into The Game After All

The interviewer also questioned whether all the features made it into Star Wars Outlaws. The creative director confirmed that while his initial vision was “exciting” and “achievable,” the title still lacks a few compelling features like swimming. On the flip side, a slew of mini-games have been introduced during development that were not originally planned.

For those not in the know, Star Wars Outlaws is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It is set to come out on August 30, 2024, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It is likely skipping the last-generation hardware because of the various limitations.
