Starfield, the highly anticipated next game from Bethesda Softworks, has finally received a release date. The open-world space epic is set to launch on September 6th, and fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival.

Bethesda announced the release date through a short trailer on Youtube, showing new footage of the game that includes moon bases, with an ending note from studio boss Todd Howard.

We have poured ourselves into this game and even I’m suprised how much we can pour it is large. This June, we are going to bring you into the studio, and give you a deep dive in the game at our Starfield direct. There’s so much that we still have to show you. The game has many of the hallmarks that you’d expect from us but its also a very unique experience. And again, thank you all for all your excitement about the game.”

Starfield has been in development for several years, with Bethesda remaining tight-lipped until recently about some details of the game. What is known is that it will be a single-player, open-world adventure set in space. Players will explore a vast galaxy filled with alien worlds and encounter a variety of strange and interesting creatures.

Starfield is a pure RPG, including a branching narrative with potentially multiple endings as there are in previous Bethesda games, allowing players to shape their own experience. The game will also have deep character customization options, allowing players to create and develop their own unique character with Bethesda’s most advanced character editor yet.

Bethesda previously released a 15-minute gameplay trailer for the game back over the summer, detailing the game itself.

The trailer showed off stunning graphics and featured a variety of environments, including space stations and planetary surfaces. Players will be able to travel between different planets and engage in space combat, mining, and other activities.

Starfield was originally intended to launch on November 11th, 2022, on the anniversary of the release of the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but a delay to 2023 was announced in May. Bethesda, like many other developers, has seen its projects delayed as the industry begins to emerge from the COVID era.

Starfield was advertised as being released sometime in the first half of 2023 but has now been confirmed to release this fall. Internal delays may be the cause, as is also the case for Bethesda’s other project Redfall.

Fans of Bethesda’s previous games, such as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, will no doubt be excited for the release of Starfield. The game is sure to be a massive hit when it launches, and players are already looking forward to exploring the vast expanse of space.

The new trailer released by Bethesda confirms some suspicions of what the premise of the game could be. It seems likely that Starfield will follow a story of Humans stumbling on an alien artifact, leading to greater discoveries after, a trope commonly explored in sci-fi, notably in 2001: A Space Odyssey and Mass Effect.

Starfield will be a massive game. With over 3 times as much dialogue as Skyrim and over 1000 planets to explore, Starfield will be a game that has longevity measured in decades, as Bethesda games before it had.

Starfield will launch exclusively on PC and on the Xbox Series X|S consoles. The title will be released to Xbox Game Pass when it releases.
