Nintendo Switch Surpasses 25 Million Units Sold In Japan

The well-renowned portable console has broken yet another milestone previously deemed improbable.

Nintendo Switch wears the insignia of being among the best-selling consoles to ever grace the gaming community. The alluring handheld has gone above and beyond in shattering milestones once deemed improbable. The hand-held shipped nearly 3 million units in its first week, that alone should give you an idea of what the rigorous portable went on to achieve in half a decade.

Seldom does a hand-held compete for a one-on-one with Sony and Microsoft consoles but Switch has proven to be a worthy opponent. The little device is often preferred by many a gamer out there over other alternatives and for good reasons. Little by little, the Switch has taken over the sales charts worldwide with each passing year.

Switch’s sales have witnessed a 20 percent decline since last year but that has not stopped it from becoming the center of attention numerous times in 2022. Nintendo Switch recently exceeded the lifetime sales of PlayStation 4 in France. The underdog of the gaming industry has achieved yet another achievement no one suspected. Nintendo’s Switch has seemingly surpassed the 25 million sales mark in Japan.

As reported by the installbaseforum which featured all the market and sales-related details regarding Switch, the hand-held system has reportedly sold a total of 25,010,404 copies as of this week. The number is expected to grow as Nintendo is willing to milk the Switch out for further years to come. Moreover, it has secured third place on the podium.

Nintendo Switch Surpassed 25 Million Sales As Reported By installbaseforum

The conservative portable is overshadowed by the predecessor of Switch, the Gameboy which has achieved staggering lifetime sales of 32,470,000. The goliath, Nintendo DS boomed in the early 2000s, and towers over both with unbelievable numerals of 32,990,000 systems shipped to gamers.

The little hand-held has proven to be quite a monster for its size. The chronicles of this portable system are likely to shake the gaming industry time and time again. The next half of the decade may witness Nintendo Switch lowering its number of accumulative sales over time since the device has already lived through half its cycle.

However, that does not mean Switch is likely to fall behind altogether as it appears to keep up with next-gen consoles against all odds. This insurmountable feat is yet another proof that Switch can hold its own against modern consoles. Although an upgrade is required soon as Nintendo Switch hardware has been fully utilized by games and reached its limits.
