- CDPR sneakily adds a Witcher 3 reference in Cyberpunk 2077 hinting at Geralt-Yennefer canon.
- It can be found at the end of The Killing Moon, the last mission of Phantom Liberty expansion.
- The debate surrounding the romantic interest for Geralt has been going on for 7 years now.
It seems that the long-standing debate about the canon relationship in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt might finally be settled. The latest discovery in Cyberpunk 2077 indicates that CD Projekt Red, the developer of the game, may have indicated their preference for Geralt and Yennefer. The Polish studio hinted at this through an easter egg right at the end of the last mission of Phantom Liberty DLC.
The supposed reference to The Witcher 3 couple was discovered by a YouTuber xLetalis. He provided a detailed account of how to get to that hidden clue in his YouTube video. To unlock the hidden reference in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty the player must side with Song So Mi aka Songbird when asked to choose between her and Reed.
In The Killing Moon, the last mission of the Cyberpunk expansion, there’s a path away from the main objective that takes the player to a box-filled small room. As xLetalis details in his video, a Data Shard is found lying just beside one of the boxes, named the “Last Wish,” an obvious allusion to the third novel in The Witcher series written by Andrzej Sapkowski.
The first part of the text in the Data Shard is a vague reference to the final part of The Witcher 3’s optional quest that is accessible after Geralt’s successful romance with Yennefer. The text reads as follows,
Ever since we professed our love to each other – up at the very top with a view of the whole world – I knew right then and there that nothing could separate us except death. If you’re reading this letter, it means that time has finally come. My final wish is that you take my ashes to the moon and scatter them from the highest peak as you gaze at the stars and think of me.”
The debate surrounding Geralt’s most suitable romance in the third installment of The Witcher series has been waging on for some time. The choice between two love interests, Triss and Yennefer, has the community divided. Despite the disagreements, it was clear from the comparison of both storylines that the sway was always towards Yennefer as she arguably had a better romantic story of the two with Geralt.

Now this discovery has furthered the argument even more in favour of Horsewoman of War. And CDPR supposedly going to the extent of putting a hidden reference in the post-modern world of Cyberpunk so far away from Geralt’s magic-laden world would definitely suggest the studio is Team Jenny. Nevertheless, the references aren’t strong enough to call it CDPR’s official canon.
