Helldivers 2 CEO On Current Situation: “Sorry Everyone For How This All Transpired”

The recent PSN account linking requirement on Steam has shot up in flames.

Story Highlights

  • Helldivers 2 is Arrowhead Game Studio’s is relatively recently released live service shooter.
  • The game has been under heavy fire on Steam because of Sony’s recent policy change.
  • The policy requires every Steam user to link their PSN account in-game, which isn’t possible everywhere.

It’s sometimes baffling how it can take mere moments for the tide to turn against something entirely in the opposite direction. Praised, loved, and appreciated only a few days ago, Helldivers 2’s current review rating has changed from positive to “Overwhelmingly Negative.” That’s how quickly the night changes, but considering Sony’s severely immediate change of policies, I don’t see the response being unwarranted.

Taking into account the entirety of this messy situation, the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt, has spoken up, expressing that he’s sorry about the way things are right now.

Well, I guess it’s warranted. Sorry everyone for how this all transpired. I hope we will make it up and regain the trust by providing a continued great game experience.I just want to make great games!”

Sony Has Pulled Helldivers 2 From 150+ Countries, Leaving Players With A Brick

As unbelievably ridiculous as that headline sounds, it’s actually what’s going on with Helldivers 2 right now. First off, it bears noting that Arrowhead Game Studios has no involvement in this, as confirmed by the Community Manager of the title’s official Discord server. “First of all, it’s Sony’s decision, not ours. Secondly, we don’t have all the details about region-related issues yet. We’re chasing Sony to get more info.”

The situation is fairly dire right now. Thousands of people have been locked out of their game because Helldivers 2 has been delisted on Steam in countries that don’t support PSN. That’s pretty messed up, particularly because linking to PSN was not a requirement prior before, and only an optional thing.

This forced change by SONY directly contradicts their stated language on their official website that said (said is an important word here because it’s past tense) you would not need to connect to a PSN account to play a game on Steam. This statement on the OFFICIAL SONY WEBSITE was changed incognito with no announcement or warning. This is because SONY KNOWS that they misled people and changed the words after the fact in the hope that no one noticed. We did,” says a concerned gamer on Steam in a recent Helldivers 2 review.
