Pokemon Company Tweets Apology For Shortage Of Van Gogh Product Line

The Pokemon Company has issued an apology to its fans for the poorly organized launch of its collaborative product line at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Based on the company’s tweet, the exclusive products appear to have sold out due to overwhelming demand. Following up on the apology, the company stated that it’s working on ways to provide more “Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat” promo cards for fans shopping a the Pokemon Center in the future.

Fans, on the other hand, have reason to believe that this is not a case of overwhelming demand, but rather a situation where certain rules were not in place. In a brief clip shared by @deals_pokemon, we can see that people were able to freely seize any product within their range, possibly without any restrictions or regulators on the scene. According to fans, such behavior indicates that the items are being procured to flip at exorbitant costs.

Several people have expressed their displeasure at the scene, citing how scalpers have ruined anything hobby-related in recent years. Pokemon itself has been subject to such extreme cases with limited edition booster pack boxes going out of stock, only to resurface on retailer sites for astronomically high prices. Back in 2021, scalpers swept through a local Walmart in Pennsylvania to procure the cards much to the dismay of fans.

Back during the launch of Sony‘s PlayStation 5 in 2020, during the COVID pandemic, scalpers managed to acquire almost every single unit from official retailers. The situation caused by the global shortage impacting supply from the backend was further magnified due to scalpers. This resulted in the console going for prices ranging in the stratosphere, consumers paying extra out of desperation, and scalpers enjoying the benefits of a free market.

While the Pokemon Company may have provided a statement on the situation, it doesn’t appear that the Van Gogh product line will be fully restocked.
