In WB’s Q3 2023 earnings call, President and CEO David Zaslav revealed that he wants to capitalize on the potential of the Superman IP in addition to Game of Thrones and Harry Potter. Elaborating more on the statement, he mentioned that the company recognizes that it can do a better job of managing and maximizing the value of these franchises.

We recognize that we can do a better job of managing and maximizing the value of our blue chip franchises like Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and Superman. Each represents an ecosystem of storytelling possibilities and we intend to capitalize on their potential with a more focused franchise management approach and look forward to bringing in a new global head of franchise as we discussed two weeks ago.”

According to Zaslav, the new global head of franchise will strive to expand the reach and impact of WB‘s storytelling IPs across the full range of consumer touchpoints with more details on this in the future. At this point, the approach WB will take to utilize the potential of the Man of Steel is unclear but fans have been requesting a Superman game ever since they had to fly through rings in the sky.

While these are things to consider, it must be noted that Superman has been adapted in video games, just not in an open world. The answer to whether a Superman game can be developed is right in front of us but at this point, all we can do is wait. Elsewhere, in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, players will face off against Man of Steel. Though the game has been delayed, it may provide us with an idea of how Superman can function in a video game with modern technology.
