To the shock of everyone, the next Naughty Dog game may just turn out to be first-person. The tidbit was teased in a new job listing for the game designer role, with a snippet in the “bonus skill” section hoping for experience in third-person and first-person games. Not many details about the upcoming single-player game are known, so this detail has been scrutinized by many in the gaming industry.

Currently, we’re busy at the kennel working on a brand-new single player game that we’re excited about, and we’d love to find talented individuals to join us,” reads the job listing.

The studio may turn towards first-person after its rampant success in many third-person projects. However, the job listing could just be making a general statement and may not specifically be looking for a first-person implementation in its upcoming project. Some argue that if the job ad really wanted to focus on first-person, it would’ve been mentioned as a requirement instead of a bonus skill.

Not The First Time Naughty Dog Has Hinted At A First-Person Project

While the chances of a studio known for third-person games suddenly leaping towards first-person feel slim at a glance, official remarks do suggest that Naughty Dog has been interested in the prospect for a long time. During the 2018 Dice Summit, Neil Druckmann, the studio boss, claimed that it’s “totally open” to going first-person. Recently, Neil also commented that this in-dev project is “perhaps the most thrilling yet.”
