Oculus Quest was released almost 2.5 years ago in 2019. Meta Platforms also launched the Oculus Store alongside this product. This store is the main hub for VR games and services relating to Oculus Quest. In recent quarterly results, the Oculus store has reached a significant milestone.
Meta announced in their Q4 results that the Quest Store had exceeded $1 Billion in content revenue. Solid Quest 2 sales in the holiday season were a large part of Meta’s Q4 revenue. This indicates a rising trend in VR gaming.
Most of the $1 billion the Quest Store has earned was in 2021. So, this is a very positive result for the company. The sales will only increase as more and more people get involved in VR gaming. Quest software’s revenue in 2021 is similar to the money Facebook paid for Oculus in 2014. So, this investment is indeed bearing fruit for the tech giant.
Meta didn’t offer any details about the Quest 2. They did not show the console’s sales and revenue to the public. Any breakdown of the $1 Billion revenue was also not given. But, a graph showing revenue across years is provided.
Quest‘s revenue across years. The Quest products have only been around for a few years now. The Oculus headsets got a rebrand just last month. Meta officially changed their name to Meta Quest. Hence, the Oculus Quest 2 became the Meta Quest 2. This rebranding is related to Facebook’s virtual reality world called the Metaverse. But, the decision is still a bit unusual considering how everyone knows these headsets like the Oculus Quests.
This recent resurgence in sales promises a bright future for the Meta Quests. The world is warming up more to VR as we go on, and the introduction of Metaverse will only increase this demand. This is only my opinion, but this milestone is just the start for Quest headsets.
