Story And Settings

Story And Setting. (Image by eXputer)

Fortnite actually consists of two different versions, but it is the Battle Royale that has attracted the major audience. The other mode is known as Save the World, which is more of a story mode, but it still features multiplayer. Both of these modes have different storylines going on simultaneously.

Save the World essentially has a more definitive narrative, and it is based on surviving the storm and protecting your base from the Husks, which are basically the game’s version of zombies. It’s basically a survivor mode where you can play as a team of 4 in various missions while fighting off these Husks.

The map keeps changing as the game is updated very frequently and the setting does not remain constant.

As for the Battle Royale mode, the lore keeps changing, and new things are introduced in every new chapter. Additionally, the map also keeps changing as the game is updated very frequently and the setting does not remain constant. This keeps the whole experience fresh as well, and various guest characters from popular franchises also make appearances throughout the different seasons.

But the story of Fortnite isn’t the main selling point of the game. The gameplay also made it widely known as the best battle royale title. The unique mechanics that this game introduced to the gameplay would make it known for years to come.

Gameplay

As is standard for a Battle Royale title, you are pitted against 99 other players in each game, and the last person standing wins. The players are not the only threat, though; you’ll be running away from the storm, too.

So the goal is to land at the best possible spot on the map and collect the most powerful equipment to increase your odds of winning the game. But things get a little different in Fortnite when the building mechanic comes into play. Because of this mechanic, the game became famous in the first place.

Overall, the gameplay is not only fun because of the mechanics, but the smooth performance and stable servers contribute to that factor as well.

Basically, you can break anything you see, including houses, trees, and even cars, and you’ll get different raw materials from them. These can then be used to build different types of platforms, allowing you to create defensive structures for yourself or even reach otherwise unreachable areas.

Build fights are common in this game, as most players will engage in those before bringing out their weapons. Trapping your opponent in your builds and then editing your walls to shoot them is one of the key strategies in this game. Weapons also get added with each new season, so the meta does not always remain constant.

If you’re not into the building mechanics, then Epic Games has also included a no-build mode over time, where you can enjoy the game without having to worry about engaging in long-build fights. Here, you can play more strategically and utilize other mechanics like sprinting or hiding to outplay your opponents and become the last person standing in a match.

Not only can you play the game in solo, duos, and squads mode, but there is a trio mode for a party of three players as well, and there are both casual and ranked modes for each of these.

The developers also keep adding special modes as the game keeps getting updated. These special modes are timed, so you’ll miss them if you’re too late to the party. The Creative Mode is quite underrated as it allows you to create your own world within Fortnite.

Essentially, it gives the player the freedom to design their own island and build various mini-games as well, like zone wars. You can even join islands created by other players if you know the correct code.

With each new season also comes a new Battle Pass that you can purchase and get rewards from by leveling up. I’d wager Fortnite offers one of the best Battle Pass services that you can purchase in a multiplayer game.

You get so much more than you pay for, and the game even rewards you with an extraordinary amount of in-game currency known as the V-Bucks.

You’ll find many crossovers of various famous franchises with this game. At this point, if something is famous, it’s cosmetic, or some form of emote probably exists in Fortnite. And that includes artists like Travis Scott and famous characters from shows like Dragon Ball.

If you’re not into the building mechanics, then Epic Games has also included a no-build mode over time, where you can enjoy the game without having to worry about engaging in long build fights

However, I will say that cosmetics are a bit overpriced in the shop, and the same can be said for emotes. This game is filled with microtransactions aside from the Battle Pass, which rewards you for every cent you pay.

Most of the casual matches are now also filled with bots, which basically ruins the fun of playing a Battle Royale in the first place. The life cycle of a multiplayer game comes to an end at one point or another, but thankfully, the ranked mode and tournaments are still kicking here.

Everyone is eligible to participate in the tournaments that take place every month and win various cash prizes. The game also provides one of the most stable online experiences and even features the best cross-play implementation across all consoles, including PC.

Overall, the gameplay is not only fun because of the mechanics, but the smooth performance and stable servers contribute to that factor as well.

Visuals And Performance

Fortnite now runs on Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 and offers some amazing visuals, especially on the next-gen consoles and PCs. The performance is also spectacular, paired with great art direction, which is just the cherry on top for a multiplayer game of this caliber.

This game runs smoothly on all platforms and even features a 120 FPS mode on the next-gen consoles. The visuals also shine in the various events within the game.

This game runs smoothly on all platforms and even features a 120 FPS mode on the next-gen consoles.

As for the bugs or any server issues, these are bound to happen in a multiplayer game. Thankfully, the developers update the game regularly and make sure that no bug or game-breaking glitch stays long enough to destroy the experience of players.

Additionally, Fortnite has the fewest hackers you’ll ever encounter in a multiplayer game, as they almost instantly get kicked and banned from the match.

Fortnite is a near-perfect Battle Royale game that has lifted the genre to new heights. It has managed to stay active for years and is still going, as the player base never seems to quit because of how good it is.

There are minor flaws, like getting matched up against bots or minor bugs here and there, but honestly, that’s a given in most multiplayer titles.

If you want to experience a Battle Royale game in all of its glory, then this title is for you. Even if you’re not interested in building, there’s a no-build mode present. There is something here for every type of player, and you’ll have fun as long you bring a squad of friends along with you.
