Story Highlights
- Nvidia has increased the price of its cloud gaming service Geforce Now.
- The increase in the pricing comes after the Nvidia-Microsoft deal which will integrate Xbox PC games in Geforce Now.
- The change in the service’s monthly plans has left many fans disappointed.
- They believe the new catalog of games does not justify this.
Recently, Microsoft and Nvidia announced a deal that includes multiple feature-sharing agreements. As spotted by internet users, the first effects of the deal have apparently started emerging. One of which is the rise in the pricing of Nvidia’s cloud gaming service, Geforce Now, as seen on Nvidia’s official website.
As assumed by some, the hike in the membership price of Geforce Now is most likely due to game sharing feature between Microsoft’s Xbox and Nvidia’s Geforce Now. As agreed in the agreement, all the Xbox PC games will be available on Geforce Now.
At the time of the announcement of the deal, many were already speculating about the potential increase in the subscription of Geforce Now. Because the agreement allows users to access tons of top-of-aisle PC games previously unavailable on Nvidia’s cloud gaming service.
Geforce Now has three membership categories, namely Free, Priority, and Ultimate. Free, as the name suggests, is free of cost but it supports the basic rig and allows gaming sessions of only 1 hour. Priority membership comes with multiple features including access to premium servers, premium rig, and 60 fps and 1080p resolution gaming with 6-hour long sessions.
Its cost was $9.99/month before the deal. Now it has been increased to $49.9/month. Which is astonishingly high even for the most ardent Geforce Now users. The Ultimate Geforce Now membership has much better features.
It comes with Geforce RTX 3080 rig, access to the fastest servers, and 120 fps and 4k resolution gaming with 8-hour long sessions. Before the deal its monthly membership was $19.9, now it is a whooping $99.9/month. Which is very high despite its benefits.
Microsoft has been very actively looking to expand in the gaming industry. Most notable of which was the deal with Nintendo which will bring the Call of Duty series to Nintendo Switch, after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision gets approved by CMA and FTC.
The Microsoft-Nvidia deal is being seen as part of recent efforts by Microsoft to convince UK and US regulators to approve its acquisition of Activision. The deal will allow players “to stream Xbox PC titles from GeForce NOW to PCs, macOS, Chromebooks, and smartphones” in more than 100 countries.
But despite this, the increase in the pricing of Geforce Now has many fans disappointed. They say the service has lost its appeal to them.
