Atomic Heart Has Crossed 5 Million Players in 3 Weeks

Robert Bagratuni, CEO and founder of Mundfish, as well as the game director of Atomic Heart, just confirmed via Twitter that Atomic Heart has reached 5 million players in its first three weeks. Thanking the players and the community, he also confirmed that further updates to improve the game is currently on the way as well as DLC, both of which are being developed according to player feedback.

Atomic Heart was released in February last month to a generally positive reception from critics and gamers. While the game drew plenty of ire for its lackluster voice acting and dialogue, buggy performance, and formulaic open world, it was also praised for its fun and satisfying combat as well as a uniquely well-designed world, fantastic music composed by DOOM composer Mick Gordon and interesting setting. 

Atomic Heart received a 4/5 score from eXputer, with a verdict saying: “While the narrative leaves a lot to be desired, Atomic Heart is nonetheless a great FPS set in a beautifully realized Soviet setting.” The game was also privy to controversy prior to its release from a portion of the Ukranian player base raising voices for a boycott of the game due to alleged connections between developers Mundfish and the Russian government.

Game composer Mick Gordon confirmed via Twitter that he donated all his earnings from the game to the Ukranian Crisis Appeal by The Red Cross. However, the Ukrainian government further urged that it will ask Valve, Microsoft, and Sony to halt the sales of Atomic Heart in Ukraine and also limit distribution in other states because of concerns regarding “the potential use of money raised from game purchases to conduct a war against Ukraine.”
