Demon’s Souls Remake Has Reached In-Game State On PS5 Emulator

A big technical milestone, even if the framerate isn't anywhere close to playable yet.

Story Highlights

  • KyTyPS5 is the first PS5 emulator to push Demon’s Souls Remake past character creation and into actual gameplay.
  • Performance remains extremely low, around 1-2 FPS, even on high-end hardware like a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 4080.
  • Rival emulator SharpEmu has only managed to reach the character creation screen so far.

Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls Remake has never come to PC, but PS5 emulator KyTyPS5 just took its clearest run at it yet. A nearly 12-minute video from YouTuber PSXTech shows the emulator loading the game’s intro screensaver and main menu, then moving into an actual playable area, the first time any PS5 emulator has gotten this far into the game.

How Far KyTyPS5 Has Actually Gotten

Earlier builds of KyTyPS5 stalled at loading screens or, at best, the character creator, the same wall rival emulator SharpEmu is still stuck behind. The new build clears that entirely. Shaders are working correctly, and the game’s graphics render without any major visual issues, a notable result for an emulator this early in development. KyTyPS5 has also been shown running Grand Theft Auto V, which has fueled some speculation, probably overly optimistic, about the emulator eventually running GTA 6 before its PC release.

None of this is playable yet. Testing shown in PSXTech’s video, on a Ryzen 9 99500X3D paired with an RTX 5090, put performance at roughly 1-2 frames per second. He also tested on multiple other setups, showcasing the in-game state at even lower framerates.

Even on a high-end setup, though, that FPS figure underlines just how much optimization work is still ahead before this becomes anything close to a real way to play the game.

Where This Leaves PS5 Emulation

Getting a demanding, first-party-adjacent title like Demon’s Souls Remake into an actual playable area this early mirrors how quickly PS4 emulation moved once projects like RPCSX picked up steam, which had Sonic Mania running at 45 FPS not long after it first appeared.

PS5 emulation is still nowhere near that level of stability, but crossing from menus into gameplay on one of the platform’s most technically demanding exclusives is exactly the kind of jump that tends to happen before things start moving fast.
